I can't look at the new Abu Ghraib photos...
Is there anyone besides myself that just can't bear to click on that (those) link(s)? I almost feel guilty for not having the guts to look upon the new pictures; but, my heart just can't take it. :-(

1. No need: You already know what's in them.
It's the people who DON'T know who should be looking at them.

There are more?
I can't do it anymore. I don't see the need for us to look, like someone above said, we are not the one's who need to be looking at them.

When the time comes, if it does, that I or we need to see them for any reason we can and will look but until then my imagination is plenty.

14. Over 1,000 more according to Salon.com
From the report at Raw Story: http://rawstory.com/news/2005/Salon_obtains_entirety_of_Abu_Ghraib_0216.html

The material, which includes more than 1,000 photographs, videos and supporting documents from the Army's probe, may represent all of the photographic and video evidence that pertains to that investigation.

3. I've already said in another thread that
I'm going to go as long as possible without looking. I'm told the new pics make the old ones look like a day at the beach. :scared: I'm with you, Catabryna.

5. Me too. I know that I should just to be aware of what happened
and what is still going on. But it is extremely difficult for me to see those images and know that humans can do that to each other. I mean just the lack of respect for a fellow human being is so sad to me.

I'm sure that the news will eventually be filled with images as they were before, and I will see some of those, but I won't click on those links anytime soon.

6. I can't look at them either. I understand that they are from the same
time frame as the ones that were released earlier, but I can't stand the thought of looking at any more of them. It also makes me mad to think that the "few bad apples" have taken all the heat over this and that their superiors got off with, at the most, a slap on the wrist.

9. It's damned hard, but I paid for 'em
I guess I should see what my tax dollars have been buying over in Iraq, they're spending so much of them over there. Besides, it's good to know what everyone else on the planet knows, so that when some righteous anger against the United States boils over, we'll at least have some idea why folks are so mad at us.

11. Here's a paragraph from the accompanying story

that tells you what to expect. The photos in Salon today are, I suspect, some of the milder ones, and they are not for the overly sensitive, that's for sure.

<snip>The DVD containing the material includes a June 6, 2004, CID investigation report written by Special Agent James E. Seigmund. That report includes the following summary of the material included: "A review of all the computer media submitted to this office revealed a total of 1,325 images of suspected detainee abuse, 93 video files of suspected detainee abuse, 660 images of adult pornography, 546 images of suspected dead Iraqi detainees, 29 images of soldiers in simulated sexual acts, 20 images of a soldier with a Swastika drawn between his eyes, 37 images of Military Working dogs being used in abuse of detainees and 125 images of questionable acts." <snip>

Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 11:02 AM by LoKnLoD
get mad as hell at what is being done in your name, with money that could be used for just and good causes. Get furious at the idea that the people REALLY responsible are sitting behind a desk getting rich off war profits. Get pissed and keep fighting, the tide is turning.

17. My breaking point was one that had a child or young teen-I will look
I will look at EVERY PHOTO.I want to be clear about what is being done in my name, and what my son is seen as while he wears the uniform of the U.S. Army.I see my boy's face transposed over that child's.This is what we have become.

When I visualized my child's face over that boy's body,I felt his pain and fear.It made it "real" to me.I am ready to end this insanity.

18. Those who support this administration and its policies should be,...
,...forced to look at those images every day, every damn minute of each day!!!

I've seen enough. I've read enough. I've opposed these heinous activities from the very beginning. I don't need to be subjected to images which have been/are generated by those who are running/ruining this nation.

THEY are the ones who should be having nightmares over the results of their own evil decisions. :grr:

Looking at pictures of human cruelty is a bit too much for me to handle right now. I don't feel badly about it; there's nothing we can do at this point.

24. Trust me when I say...
that I understand that there are many who are looking at the attrocities being commited in our name in spite of the discomfort involved in viewing them... thus my guilt at not having guts enough to be able to view them myself.

33. I'm just not strong enough and I feel guilty too.
I can imagine what the pictures show from seeing some of the older ones.I know I should bear witness and not turn away because of my discomfort but I'm sorry.I just can't look at them.I won't.

God Damn those bastards that did that.HOW could they DO that to another human being!????Words cannot describe the feeling I have for the men who commited these atrocities. It has forever changed me as a person.I don't think anyone deserves to have to see that much less go through it.God Damn them.GOD DAMN them for doing what they did to those people.

I am filled with intense feelings of revulsion, shame and guilt, so your reluctance to view them is quite understandable. I still cannot bear to look at many of the photos of carnage and death in Iraq.

34. I still see those horrible images in my mind from the first batch...
I am not going to look at these new ones. I already know enough of the horrible things humans do to each other.....

I agree, those who haven't seen them or feel "others" are less human so its not so bad somehow, are the ones who need to see them.

My heart can't take anymore either.
