but I haven't seen this as confirmed on what passes for our news media.
It is common at these "hunting clubs" to have pen raised birds with wings clipped, handlers release dozens of the frightened animals into a field and the "hunter" drives up in a car (sometimes shooting from the car as if on safari in Africa), hops out and within a few paces, stumbles over a covey (really just a group since no natural process of covey formation ever took place). The birds try to fly to escape but can't (hence the shooting at or near the horizon). Even if the hurter is a bad shot, you have more chances with the same group of birds since they can't really effectively escape (except by running, and if you have any dogs on the hunt, they can heard the birds back toward the hunters - which explains how one hunter can shoot two birds, retrieve them, and then WALK to where the hunting party is flushing another covey and firing on them at near horizon level).
