RE: Abu Graib photo--"I AM A RAPEIST"

Feel free to ignore this if it has already been discussed, I've been checking into DU very erratically lately.

I was just looking at a thread where someone had posted the Abu Graib photo where you could see the lower half of a man's body with the words "I AM A RAPEIST" written on him. It suddenly occurred to me that here is an example of someone who might have had no connection to terrorists or terrorism who ended up being "interrogated" at Abu Graib. If the guards thought this man was a terrorist, it seems to me that that is what they would have written on him. Rape is, of course, a serious crime but assuming that this man is a rapist (and I'm not saying that he is/was) exactly what information about AL QAEDA and TERRORIST PLOTS did the "interrogators" think they were going to get out of him. It seems to me that this is a damning photo in more ways than one.

Anyone with an eighth-grade education can see how short-sighted and counter-productive it is to beat the fuck out of anyone who comes in the door.

These are not terrorists. They are not Al Queda. They may be directly involved with the insurgency, they may be remotely involved, but more than likely they were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time, kind of like Cheney's gunshot victim....but NOTHING justifies this evil bullshit. Not in MY name. My uncles and father served in the military in WW2, one brought home a piece of German shrapnel in his hip that got buried with him. NOT IN THEIR NAME, EITHER.
