Abu Ghraib photos - Everyone's got them except US
With Salon's assertion that they have received, "in what may be its entirety", the Abu Ghraib report DVD I expected that their site would link to the contents. It does not. It appears that no more than 10 or so of the 1,000 photographs have been published by Salon. Other media outlets, in recently famous reports, have released others. By my count it appears that no more than 20-30 new pictures have been released. That means that literally hundreds of the photographs and at least half the videos are still safely tucked away from the average American citizen.

I checked all the torrents for these and have come up empty-handed. I have checked dozens of search engines in English and other languages in hopes of locating them. All in vain. How long will it take before these are released in total, to the American citizens who unfortunately paid for this behavior which was conducted in their name?

Or will those who have access to the material meter it out, a few pictures at a time, over the course of months or longer to boost click-thoughts on their website or the purchase of newspapers?

Previously, proponents of the government's position have stated that the release of these photographs and video were moot because "the pictures are available over the Internet". This was and is still patently false. As someone who has spent literally hundreds of hours searching for these images and come up empty-handed, I'm concerned that now that a few media outlets claim to have all or part of the collection of the Darby photos that the outcry for this material will die- even though the public has seen just a tiny sliver of the material available.

Why do I care? Isn't one image enough? I care because this was done in our name. I care because we were made to pay for this behavior. Though each photograph is sickening in its own way, it is important to me that any American wishing to view this material should be able to.

Personally, each image gives me that much more energy to continue to fight the disease which has been inflicted on this country and which we have spread overseas in Liberty's usurped name.

SBS in Australia broadcasts the real Abu Ghraib footage the US
government will not allow you to see.

*February 16, 2006*

On Wednesday 16 February 2006, Australian public broadcaster SBS current
affairs program DATELINE telecast a segment featring 60 new photos of
the torture inflicted on prisoners in the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq.
These photos were secured by court order - the ACLU figures prominently
in the report - but these photos haven't yet been shown in the media
anywhere in the United States. Because of the broadcast on SBS, you now
have access to both Web-downloadable versions and BitTorrent
file-sharing network versions of the broadcast on this site. *THESE
PHOTOS ARE VERY DISTURBING. Please do not view this video if you are
easily disturbed by graphic imagery of torture and death*.

3. Thank you, but what I'm looking for is the raw images themselves...
Not a broadcast which includes the images. I do not mean to downplay the importance of the Australian report- that's where the story broke. But there's still something between Americans and the Abu Ghraib images: the media outlets who now have access to some or all of them. I'm looking for torrents, but torrents for the actual files not news reports which mention/depict them.

There are about 1,000 files collected during the inquiry which compose the contents of the DVD that Salon describes.

I am searching for this primary source information.

Thank you,

PB
