"Black History" is American History!
I'm sick and tired of it - they regulate the discussion of blacks in American history to one month a year (and the shortest month at that!).

Blacks in this country are marginalized in every manner possible in this great 'OLE MERICA!

Besides what they call "Black history"... is truly "American slave history".. Pretty much only deals with the last 400 years here in America.

And I hate to say this, but it is true... that within the Dem party Blacks are incredibly marginalized!

2. Agreed--even the month that had been set aside gets ignored--just like
the rest of the year.

4. Why 'hate to say it?' It's TRUE!
>>And I hate to say this, but it is true... that within the Dem party Blacks are incredibly marginalized!<<

Except for a few weeks during an election year, when the shamelessness of the pandering is practically nauseating.

"Oh, gee, the election is in six months. hmmmm... get me a coupla gigs at black churches, willya?"

Feh. "Black history." OK, we'll spend a week or two talking about slavery, George Washington Carver, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, read a little Maya Angelou, beat our breasts some, and go back to business as usual pretending we've "solved" the problems of discrimination, racism, and economic inequity.

Y'know, if more white people would actually take the trouble to educate themselves a bit, and actually ASK QUESTIONS AND LISTEN TO THE ANSWERS with a few black people, we'd discover that it isn't really such an impossible dream.

Black folks, you know them, right? They're all hip-hop artists, pro athletes, criminals, and a few entertainers, yanno. What could they POSSIBLY have in common with me? What could I POSSIBLY have in common with them? How could I ever understand such weird, scary people?

Sorry, I'm just feeling grouchy today... heard from an old friend who's trying to get some foundation executives to nudge their liberal-guilt-knowitall thinking patterns out of the same-old-same-old groove, and not having much success.

irritably,
Bright

5. You're right. I shouldn't "hate to say it"
What I meant by that - Is that I'm part of a political party who consistently ignores and marginalizes me. This somewhat embarasses me!.... But where do we go?... certainly not to the Rethuglicans!

6. Repuke talking point
This is what Republicans who against equality are trying make out like they are for it. It's not relegating black history to one month, it's just one month where it is a time to educate other cultures about black history. And FYI, it's not in February because it's the shortest month, but because of Frederick Douglas birthdate. And blacks aren't exactly marginalized in the Democratic Party, if we win the elections in November 3 committee chairs in the House will be black, plus a dozen or more subcommittee chair.
