No one will stop them - and especially not any Republicans. This is no longer America.

12. Also I told all of my Republican friends that Congress would NOT have the |
|
integrity to investigate this, I told them this when Risen's article first came out a couple of months ago and they laughed and said no we have integrity to investigate this.
I can not wait to tell them now, even though it doesn't help us, I knew this would happen.

|
of the culture of corruption. That by not holding hearings on something that involves ALL Americans, not just republicans, they are covering up for the illegal warrantless wiretapping by this president. That republicans are undermining the constitution by not protecting and defending it and that they are breaking their oaths of office. waiting...

16. why can't we do what we did with Alito with this? |
|
they can only make a deal that can stick if we are complicit here, right? Let's NOT go quietly. Let's raise a stink with the same vigilance as we did for Alito.
Damn it. No sitting quietly anymore.
Let them know we are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore!

No Filibuster, and quick confirmation. This won't be any different. The democrats are basically a milder version of the repubs. Our democracy is DEAD.

"democracy is dead". We might have lost the battle but at least we showed up to fight. If we want people to know what's going on, we have to make a noise ... a big LOUD noise.

25. Exactly....WE Spoke Out.... |
|
Our representatives in Congress for the most part DID NOT. I've gotten to the point where I understand the game which is being played, and unfortunately our team sucks at it.
I'm not talking about people from DU, from Move On, from any of the many blogs. I'm not talking about the people who spent days calling and writing senators BEGGING that Alito be filibustered. I'm talking about our so-called democratic leaders. You know, the ones who got a "fan favorite" like Hackett kicked out of the game. The ones who bashed anyone who suggested a filibuster.
We stand little chance getting past them, and stand ZERO chance of getting past the repubs, because they stick to their script, and NEVER deviate. I am glad you still wish to give an effort, and do so without complaint or regret. I lend you my support, and will put in some effort as well, just like I did with Alito. I'm just realistic enough to know that there is little chance of success. It's kind of like rooting for a last place team. You hope for and enjoy the few victories, but realize that come season's end, you're going to be sitting home watching the others celebrate on tv.

26. and if we had done nothing it would have passed without a word |
|
at all. We made noise and we made the press engage our position whether they wanted to or not. The only way we are ever going to gain any clout again is to do it over and over and over until it is no longer laughed at, no longer dismissed as absurd or a one time outrage, or a single issue action.
We must hammer every chance we get and take the loses as one more step to the day we no longer lose. As long as we sit quietly, we are assured to lose and be dismissed as something that must be tolerated but not given any attention so we will go away defeated.
That old quote come to mind - All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke).
I don't intend to sit by and do nothing.

17. Can Someone Please Help Me.... |
|
I really want to get out of this country. I really really do. But I have a job, a license, family & friends, and it's just not that easy. And I need to choose a country which is not nearly as corrupt as this one. Canada seems in too close proximity to the dangers of the U.S.
I suppose if I didn't feel so alone in wanting to leave, or in actually doing so, I would be more comfortable and confident about it. Every day that goes by, I lose more respect for the U.S., and am pretty much ready to get the fuck out. No way it ever comes back in my lifetime, and I'm 39.

Isn't the head of Australia buddy buddy with King george? Is NZ in any way affected by this? I would feel far removed from both the U.S. and Europe all the way down there, but perhaps that's not such a bad thing in the long run.

and go back across the border once every six months until you decide if you want to apply for residency (I know, this is an expensive option). Canada has very stingent privacy laws. I may go this route in the future until what kind of country we end up having shakes out.

19. I just got off the phone with Arlen Specter's office and asked if he would |
|
go along with this.
I was told Specter hadn't made a statement yet. I said if he supported this I think he should resign since he would be abrogating his responsibility to the Constitution. I said what was the sense of even having the legislative branch of government if they choose to ignore their responsibility to provide checks and balances to what is an appallingly out of control and corrupt executive branch.
I've just had it. If people think we still have democracy in this country they are delusional.
