I seriously believe the Bush Administration will be successful in...
...destroying our country. They have orchestrated a disaster in Iraq that will probably fuel even more global terror while exploding the budget deficit. They are about to orchestrate another disaster in Iran that exceeds what they have done in Iraq. They are busy destroying all Constitutional protections for American citizens, and undermining the Constitution itself as the foundation of US law. They are consolidating so much power in the Executive that we might as well call the United States a dictatorship rather than a democracy. They are reversing progress in every area of human compassion - medical care, education, the elimination of hunger, basic shelter - everything. They are destroying the environment and silencing those who would expose the truth about the environmental problems we face. Under the Bush Administration, our nation has become nothing more than unrestrained power and greed.

I really, really fear for our future.

12. I see what you mean
Investigation after investigation, and it every time it seems that the powers that be are just going through the motions, with no real accountability or consequence.

I think we can still turn it around if we pick up a majority in '06 (especially, a Senate majority). Of course, that's barring another fascist Supreme Court appointment.

We've got a tough road ahead that will require a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck. We've got to keep fighting- we can't afford not to.

10. It's Time To Go Now....
People think I'm nuts for wanting to leave. My parents say, where are you going to go? This is the best country in the world.

WAS. Not is. WAS the best country. I am only 39, but each day I feel more likely than not I won't end my days living in the U.S. The only question is whether I'll have the courage, and means, to leave before it gets really bad. No, it's not there yet. It may seem bad, but there are plenty of liberties and freedoms still to take away. The economy is still alive, but for how long? When will the shit hit the fan? Perhaps I'm a pessimist, but I can't see how the economy can survive.

I guess the scare tactics are working with the populace and the media is complicit in that.

unpunished. 1 + 1 now really does equal 3. The Democratic Leadership still weak and clueless.

As much as we don't want to hear it, I think they're already convinced that it's a foregone conclusion that this country is on it's way out and they're just jockeying for position to see who gets to rebuild it from the smoldering ruins (that's assuming * doesn't nuke the planet)

22. The blame lies with THE SLEEPERS. And the liar media.
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 06:37 PM by Gregorian
Those who let them get away with this. Those who support them. Those who think that paying attention is either too hard, or just not something that should be done. Like Hitler, one little man and his army of goons are nothing to match the overall population, if they were awake. I knew when to awaken. 1999, I watched. Ooh, look at Democracy work. Wow. Then 2001 arrived, and I realized that Bush meant much more than just being the dickhead that he is. He was dangerous. And it proved to be correct. But it was only possible for Bush to do his deeds with the permission of the people. I believe our Democrat Senators caved because they percieved that the people weren't demanding enough. Sure we marched by the millions. But the country wasn't united. And it's mostly due to the corporate media lies that the people didn't wake up.

Now we are in trouble. But again, when Bush is gone, I will still be worried. Worried about the sleepers, and the lying media.

I want to edit this to say that it isn't even the media. WE knew, despite the media. I wrote Feinstein to tell her we'd march in the streets if she voted to give the president the power to go to war.

It's the Sleepers.

23. Dear FormerRepublican,
Let me introduce you to a phrase that sometimes keeps me very motivated if not always hopeful.

"Time of Useful Consciousness". It's an aeronautical term which means the time between the onset of oxygen deficiency and the loss of consciousness -- the brief moments of time in which a pilot may save the troubled plane.

There's a radio program occasionally played on our local Pacifica station which is named after that term, TUCradio. The host always ends the show by explaining the term.

These men in power are about to crash the country, and we are aware of it. If you are concerned about global warming, the analogy is particularly appropriate there. We may or may not have a little time left. But we must try.

26. there are times when I wonder whether ...
... this regime deliberately infiltrated the US, over a period of decades, with the sole aim of pulling the tent down by getting inside it first! Maybe if a previous unsuccessful foe of the US -- oh, like Canada, say? -- had developed a long-term strategy to destroy the US at home and abroad, it would look like this. Except that, being Canadian, I know that we wouldn't -- because we'd be crushed under a falling America for sure. They sneeze, we get pneumonia, etc. -- and besides, most Canadians have friends/family in the States.

I confess I didn't even realize that someone who didn't care what people thought of America, and had active contempt for decency, could do a great deal of damage if they were put in control of the US. Sort of like ... I always had figured that if an airplane got hijacked, the perpetrators would try to land it safely because they didn't want to risk harm to themselves? Now, I'm not sure.

Many of my mother's friends in the States (she went to school in the US) are old-school Republicans. I know that there were also Democrats and Independents in that bunch, but if Uncle Roy didn't approve of FDR-style social programs and Aunt Shirley didn't like the US deploying soldiers to Vietnam, it didn't turn into talk-radio personal attacks! There was a certain civility and dignity -- even Uncle Hank, a Pat Buchanan supporter in the old days, would send me a dollar on my birthday (if he had any qualms about a non-white "niece", he never said so). The current administration -- they really are something different. Any sign of kindness is to be interpreted as weakness. I'm almost relieved that some of those elderly American "aunts" and "uncles" are dead, because seeing the Constitution being shredded would have broken their hearts.

28. And what you mentioned is thats t he good news!
They are building new detention centers, they have bankrupted our country, they keep inventing more devastating weapons, God only knows how much of the weaponized anthrax they have stockpiled, they are fueling runaway population growth and poisoning everything that breathes. They have stolen the vote and chosen shills to adjudicate our laws. Everything I was taught as a child to fear about the Communists has become standard operating procedure for the emperor. Not to mention, 9-11's official story has more holes than the Albert Hall, Trillions of dollars are missing from the Pentagon and there is not even talk of an inquiry, the gap between the have mores and the dirt poors is increasing at a faster and faster pace and overlords are reading what we are posting right now. The "legal" mechanisms are being put in place for total dictatorship and the party that is supposed to be our champion is colluding and getting more smug in their dismissal of us.
I am sure that I have also left out a lot and minimized the situation.

29. Zappa said it best
"The illusion of freedom will continue as long as it's profitable to continue the illusion. At the point where the illusion becomes too expensive to maintain, they will just take down the scenery, they will pull back the curtains, they will move the tables and chairs out of the way, and you will see the brick wall at the back of the theatre."

40. Remember his music was the music for the Velvet Revolution
His song "Plastic People" was the song of the Czech resistance.

Plastic People
Frank Zappa

Ladies and Gentlemen...
The President of the United States!
*"Fella Americans...Doot, Doot, Doot..."*
He's been sick!--Doot! Doot!
And I think his wife is gonna bring him
Some chicken soap
Plastic people!
Oh, baby, now you're such a drag

I know it's hard to defend an unpopular policy
Every once in a while--

Plastic people!
Oh, baby, now you're such a drag

And there's this guy from the CIA he's creepin'
Around Laurel Canyon
A fine little girl She waits for me
She's as plastic as she can be
She paints her face With plastic goo
And wrecks her hair With some shampoo

Plastic people
Oh, baby, now you're such a drag

"I dunno...sometimes I just get tired
Of ya honey--it's...ah..your
Hair spray...or something..."

Plastic people
Oh, baby, now you're such a drag

"I hear the sound of marching feet...
down Sunset Boulevard to Crescent Heights
...and there...at Pandora's box...
We are confronted with...a vast
Quantity of...Plastic people..."
Take a day and walk around
Watch the Nazi's Run your town
Then go home and check yourself
You think we're singing
'Bout someone else

But you're Plastic people
Oh, Baby, now
You're such a drag

Me see a neon Moon above
I searched for years I found no love
I'm sure that love Will never be
A product of Plasticity
A product of Plasticity
PLASTIC, PLASTIC PEOPLE--PLA-HA-HA-HA
HA-PLASTIC--You are--your foot--your hair
--your nose--your arms--you suck--you love
--you are--your being is--you're plastic--blah
--blah--blah--blah plastic Peoples
-A prune is not a vegetable
--cabbage is a vegetable; makes it O.K.
--plastic people--plastic People
--you dream about...you think about...you eat
...you are...Ooo-Hoo-Hoo...
purple prancing--plastic People-

He's already destroyed Clinton's surpluses and the goodwill that Clinton and others had built up around the world. He's taking back the presidential power that Nixon lost through his illegalities. Next up is abortion rights gained in the 70s. They want to take us back at least to the 50s--no, make that to before the New Deal. Get rid of Social Security, yeah, that's the ticket!

These guys will take us back to the stone age if we let them. We'll be marching backward as long as they are in power.

Since * has been office I've feared for the future of the country as a whole, but after the 2004 election, when * stole another election, I've been in somewhat of a depressed mood about the future, and since the Alito confirmation, I now expect the worse possible things to happen, and have felt very hopeless.
