Let's all WRITE our congressfolk and send it snailmail
Handwritten - and if you can make it return receipt requested.

Let's just give it a try - talk about the UN report, the ICRC report, mention the bill they passed banning torture and bushs signing statement refuting it. Mention Abramoff, Cunningham, DeLay, Noe and the culture of corruption. Also bring up the fact that the new houseboy is against limiting goodies such as travel from lobbyists. Ask them about the latest illegal spying on american citizens. The fact that only low-level grunts got called to task for torture - and even when the torture KILLED the victims, their punishment was ridiculously mild.

I realize that I am suffering from fatigue - too many crimes committed, and too little hope that America will ever be a democracy again in my lifetime.

Let's try snail mail - handwritten. If there is enough perhaps it will matter...

I have no idea who said it first but to paraphrase:
"If you feel small and helpless, try spending a night naked in a room with a mosquito"

Let's get to work folks.... and thanks for being here.
m.

1. Regarding snail mail:
It used to be that snail mail carried more weight with Congressional offices than emails since it actually costs more money and takes more work than email and is less prone to astro-turfing. However, after the anthrax attacks, I have heard that snail mail suffers from long delays while it is opened and searched and may be damanged or not even delivered.

However, I have heard one good suggestion to avoid this problem - do not use an envelope! Just write your letter, tri-fold it with the written side inside, use a little scotch tape to keep it from unfolding, write the address and return address on the outside of your letter, stick on a stamp, and mail. Since there is no envelope, it is easy to see that there are no suspicious powders or other contents and it will be delivered more quickly.

2. That's what I heard too
What I do is go to their web site and find their "Feedback" section. They will ask you to fill in your name and address (so that they know if you are a constituent). This carries more weight than a regular email I believe.

3. Warners office said if I wanted a reply I needed to send via post office
as they tend to get swamped via email. But sending it trifold without an envelope is a great idea! thanks!
