Texas Hunting Rules
As a Texan born and raised, I have long exposure to the rules of hunting.

The first rule, the very first rule that a father teaches his son when they go out to hunt, is this:
Whatever happens while out hunting, never, ever, ever tell your mother.

The second rule, one that is driven home repeatedly is this:
If you wound a critter, you don't let it wander off in pain and fear to die alone. You finish it off. I know that your are thinking this does not apply when you wing a lawyer. And that is just cruel of you. I don't care how low the varmint is, in Texas, you finish it off.

The third rule is the hunters cup. I'm not going to go into what that is, but I suspect that our V.P. Would have no trouble with it.

Finally on the point of gun safety. Gun safety is for wimps and liberals, the only time a Texas hunter is safe is after you have pried his gun out of his cold dead hand. ;)

1. Oh, man...As a Texas hunter that made me laugh out loud.
The first one goes double when you're hunting on the border.

3. I laughed too as I wrote it.
The funniest part of it all, is that these really are the rules. O.K. The folk I have hunted with are serious about safety. Those who believe that they should leave a spot in better shape than when they came. Those who believe in personal responsibility, well they really aren't W's base are they?

4. Go tell Mr. Benchley
I tried to explain that yesterday. The way to talk to rural gun owners is to talk about gun responsibility and getting together and writing sensible laws that will save kids and cops. You can't expect small towns that haven't had a rape or murder in 20 years to up-end their lives because of what goes on in cities.
