The Senate defies Bush!
The Defense Appropriations Bill passed the Senate and Senator McCain's anti-torture amendment with it! Resident Bush had said he would veto the bill if that amendment was not removed! Tell your Senators to end U.S. torture of detainees by supporting and maintaining their YES on Senator McCain's amendment today: amendment #1977, for the Department of Defense Appropriations bill to stop torture. Tell them to reject the Appropriations bill if this amendment or the documents/manuals it references are removed or altered. Find their phone number and call them: www.senate.gov
Then sign the petition against torture:
http://hq.demaction.org/dia/organizations/bordc/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=534and send this message to Bush to pressure him to sign their bill:
http://action.truemajority.org/campaign/torture?Some thuggish Congress members are now trying to exempt the CIA from the torture prohibition!!
That's right. There are criminal forces still working behind the scenes to try to cut the heart out of the anti-torture provision, which was passed 90-9 by the Senate, in the conference on the defense bill with the House. With one click, please contact your Senators and Congressman at once and tell them this attempt to subvert the will of the people is a further outrage!
The CIA- the worst culprits must NOT be allowed to escape the reach of its intent. Leading the charge on the conference committee will be three of the only nine senators who voted FOR more torture by voting NO on McCain's amendment, Ted Stevens (AK), Thad Cochran (MS) and Kit Bond (MO). The dirty 9: NAYs ---9
Allard (R-CO)
Bond (R-MO)
Coburn (R-OK)
Cochran (R-MS)
Cornyn (R-TX)
Inhofe (R-OK)
Roberts (R-KS)
Sessions (R-AL)
Stevens (R-AK)
