Asian Media Watch (AMW) denounces the racially inflammatory segment produced and broadcast by the Adam Carolla radio program on January 24, 2006. AMW demands that Viacom/CBS Radio, host of the Adam Carolla show, take prompt remedial action including but not limited to: issuing a written and on-air apology to the public; and sanctioning employees responsible for the production and broadcast of the offensive segment.
During his January 24 broadcast, radio host Adam Carolla portrayed the hosts and honorees of the Asian Excellence Awards (AXA) as nothing but "ching-chong" speaking subjects of ridicule. He repeatedly broadcast a parody of an AXA awards ceremony in which he and fellow radio co-hosts imitate the AXA announcers and honorees, except that they only repeat the racial slurs "ching-chong" for the entire lengthy segment. In doing so, the host and producers of the Adam Carolla showed disdain and disrespect towards Asian Pacific Americans (APAs), their accomplishments, and their long history of contribution to American society. His behavior serves to perpetuate harmful attitudes towards APAs as outsiders and foreigners, and contributes to a climate of ignorance, racial prejudice and bigotry. This guy is so pathetically unfunny, it doesn't surprise me he would resort to this. So lame. Was a little surprised to see Colbert doing something similar, but at least he was just speaking with an accent, not just going "ching chong ching chong".
