1) It'll be too hot. Just because we sympathize with all the Katrina victims that spent days on their roofs in direct sunlight and muggy 90+ degree heat surrounded by sewage doesn't mean
we have to break a sweat too. We'd look so bad with sweat spots under the arms and our sleeves rolled up.
2) It'll be the middle of the Hurricane season. We need a nice, safe spot from which to deliver the message to America that we are not the wimps Republicans say we are.
3) NOLA doesn't have the facilities. We can best help that shoddy old wannabe city recover by dropping them off the list now before anyone gets their hopes up. Having the convention there would just draw attention to how noone would ever want to go there.
4) NOLA business owners have too many worries as it is. Seriously, booking a weekend solid for a highly publicized national convention is a hassle for hurricane-savaged hotel owners who are just trying to scrape together enough investment to get back on their feet.
5) Any symbolic message will be totally glossed over by the corporatist news media. Heck, they may even decide not to cover the 2008 Fucking
National Fucking
Democratic Fucking
Convention at all!
6) The symbolic message will backfire. It will be too late after the fact, and will just be seen as pandering. It would be a total disaster just like NYC was for the Republicans.
7) The media would just use it as an excuse to say -- hey look, NOLA recovered fine. There's no chance whatsoever that the press would take a sidetrip to visit some of the devastated neighborhoods or interview residents. We'd have to do some extreme stunt like have prominent Democrats go out there and have meetings with NOLA residents. None of our politicians are going to be up for
that.
8) All the people in Mississippi would feel that NOLA was getting all the attention yet again. We'd lose their votes!
9) The ten other cities on the list wouldn't understand why we picked NOLA and they'd resent us for it. We should try to satisfy the people in at least one city that matters.
10) The Republican noise machine would leap all over us saying stuff like "Democrats just can't let NOLA rest. That was 3 years ago" and "Putting the convention in NOLA: typical pessimistic Democrats" and "That's going to be one dull convention down there in NOLA."
11) It'll be a coordination nightmare. How would people ever trust the Democratic Party to run the country if we can't organize a simple convention?
12) NOLA residents will complain. After all, we know they don't have half the spirit of the folks in Boston who so kindly told all the media that they were thrilled to have us.
BTW, in case you are braindead: :eyes::sarcasm::eyes:
