Fuddgate has real impact on people (R voters), make no mistake:
Warning: Anecdotal evidence contained below.

Here's a post from a thread on this topic, another board I read and occasionally post on. Actually I didn't realize this guy was a shrubco supporter until I read this.

Kennedy County sherriffs have closed their investigation of the VP. Case closed, it was an accident, move along, nothing to see here....

I must say, this was a eye opener. From someone who was supporting the administration to now being someone who is 'watching how they do business' more closely... I am not liking what I see too much. Wonder how many others will fall off the right end of the spectrum...

after all the calculatingly evil things Cheney has done and continues to do - just more proof how utterly stupid these bush supporters really are

8. Well, you never know which straw will break the camel's back
Look at what did in that SCOTUS nominee several years back - Ginsberg was it? - he admitted he smoked pot. Nowadays, it would look more odd if a candidate admitted to not smoking it!

Bill Clinton was nearly done in by a B/J

Zoe Baird, Clinton's first nominee for AG, was done in by an illegal nanny. His next nominee, Kimba Wood, it was later discovered had worked in a Playboy Club.

3. The Dark Night of the Conservative Soul
A lot of us DUers forget that Bush isn't exactly a conservative. He's a tyrant wrapped in the cloak of Conservatism. A lot of Conservatives see that, but don't want to acknowledge it.

Keep in mind, I'm not advocating conservative philosophy. I often disagree with them. But Bush is something else entirely; he's the same kind of conservative as Stalin was a social democrat. Only Bush has less of a taste for blood; at least blood shed at close range.

This is a time to make common cause with Conservative and Republican opinion leaders who have been marginalized by Bush. No, not to agree with them, not be be like them or obey them, but to encourage them to do what must be done to reclaim an authentic conservative philosophy. What has dominated American politics since 1980 isn't conservatism, but neo-Conservatism, which is quite a bit different.

As a wiser man than I once said, "Kid, this is bigger than both of us." I do believe that's true. The fight against the corruption that spawned Team Bush is an eternal struggle against the corruption of the human soul and against civil tyranny.

Harry Whittington took a shot for all of us last Saturday. We all learn the same lessons, just in different ways ...

6. I think that some Bush supporters are finally realizing, or finally
admitting to themselves, that this administration bears no resemblance to the administration they thought they were going to get. It has taken them a long time to face the facts, but this time they can't ignore them. Compassionate Conservatism was only a campaign slogan and not anything that Bush meant to apply to his policies. This may be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

This whole incident just reeks with dishonesty and deception. It is also an incident that many of them can identify with. Most people, even people who don't hunt, realize that even an accidental shooting requires an immediate investigation, not one that is scheduled for the convenience of the shooter. Then Bush comes out and says he satisfied with the way Cheney handled the situation. Maybe they are finally seeing the complete disdain that this administration has for even the small matters of law that we are all expected to abide by.

9. Exactly, no one wants to feel like they've been conned - and they
sure don't like the fact that they stood up publically for something that turned around and made them look like fools. So they hang their heads a little lower in private, scream a little louder in public and try to belittle anyone who won't buy into the bullshit.

11. Yes, it's amazing how thoroughly SATURATED with deceit one act like this
could be.

Think about it.

Deceit getting any word out at all, delay.

Info about severity of patient's wounds CLEARLY false from lying friend ("he got peppered pretty good!") and subsequent reports too (it was reported the guy was going to be discharged the day after entering the hospital, which anyone involved KNEW was patently false based on the severity of his initial injuries) Lying friend says the man was speaking to DeadEye, who subsequently denies the guy said anything in his TV interview because he was unresponsive. Lying friend claims to have seen enough to declare victim responsible for his own injury, but was in car and didn't even know who had fallen when watching the Secret Service and doctors running to scene.

Info about the gun, ammo, distance either distorted, meant to mislead, or false ("BBs", "BB gun" LOL)

Language about the shooting meant to mislead/minimize/distort "spray" "pepper"

Even the doctor's news conference seemed somewhat misleading to me, in that an ignorant layman still might have the idea that somehow the pellets migrated from a SUPERFICIAL wound all the way to the dude's heart, people still don't understand the dude's heart atack was a DIRECT CONSEQUENCE of TRAUMA to his HEART from his HEART being SHOT.

Info about alcohol now "trickling out" (initially "no alcohol" "Dr. Pepper only" "best of my knowledge no drinking", now "a beer at lunch", "cocktail with dinner")

Reasons for not going to hospital on day of shooting don't pass smell test ("ambulance was crowded, they didn't need another body" um WHAT secret service vehicles?)

Sheriff office suggested Sun AM interivew? Sheriff deputy turned away on SAT PM? Hmmm who is lying?

Shrubco toadies Matlin & the heiress putting ALL blame on the VICTIM initially. This didn't go over so well, DeadEye has to say on TV that he has all responsibility.

Every MOLECULE of this story is SATURATED with lies. That's just right off the top, I'm sure I'm missing many.

the bushies think they are above the law

they are safe as long as they hide behind excuses of national security, executive privilege and invoke 9-11 like it was some sort of papal veil of infallibility

5. Cheney's biggest mistake was NOT talking to the police for 20+ hours
Too many of Bush's supporters are Hunters.

Hunters drink while hunting

And they all KNOW why anybody that shot somebody hunting would do that.

7. Example of just how stupid the voters are in this country
It is not national issues or world events or criminal acts that sway many. It is always some act that doesn't really relate to how they govern that sway the idiots.
