TEXANS STRIKE BACK AT SOROS

February 17, 2006 -- CONSERVATIVES in Texas are using liberal activist George Soros as a "boogeyman" to galvanize their base, with the Free Enterprise Committee featuring the Hungarian-born billionaire in television ads.

Soros, who spent over $25 million trying to beat President Bush in 2004, has lately taken aim at disgraced, doubly indicted House Majority Leader Tom DeLay by funding a series of harsh attack ads in DeLay's home state of Texas.

Yesterday, the Free Enterprise Committee - which calls itself the "leading voice in the public arena fighting for the American system of free enterprise" - counterattacked with a commercial running for the next two weeks that gives Soros a small taste of his own medicine. ....

"As for the substance, anybody who wants to know what George Soros funds should look at www.soros.org and not rely on attack ads funded by anonymous donors." ....

1. Ironically It Was A Fox Station That Refused To Take That Ad
KRIV in Houston is owned by Fox.

I only wish George Soros were throwing in all that money the wingnuts claim he is...I sure haven't seen it. Nothing like the coin Richard Mellon-Scaiffe, the Coors and others have pumped into the Repugnicans all these years. But we're not supposed to know that. :sarcasm:

I'm glad the Bugman's fighting this and making a bigger and bigger fool of himself and the Repugnicans. These goons have no moral compass and their fall will be so pleasant to watch.

Cheers...

2. If this is the same ad, Houston refused to show it period
I don't think a station one played this ad because DeLay threatened slander lawsuit....

4. Looks Like They Changed Their Minds...
hmmm...

WASHINGTON - At least one Houston television station has agreed to air a reworked television ad linking Rep. Tom DeLay to disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff after refusing to air the first version of the commercial made by two liberal groups last week.

Fox station KRIV (Channel 26) has agreed to air the spot, though Vice President and General Manager D'Artagnan Bebel declined to explain the decision.

<snip>

Two days later, the nonpartisan group FactCheck.org, which reviews the accuracy of political ads and is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, said the ad wasn't false, just ambiguously worded.

The stations refused to budge.

The groups went back to the drawing board because "we think it's important that voters and the public in Houston see the ad itself and hear the story about what Tom DeLay has done," Donnelly said. He would not elaborate on the changes.

3. If there were a vast left wing conspiracy, it would target Murdoch
The owner of Fox News, Fox Television, Skynews, The Times of London, The NY Post, TV Guide and all of Australia's media has deep ties with the Red Chinese, is married to a Red Chinese woman, and has an enormous mansion in Red China where he uses slave labor supplied by the Red Chinese government and drinks blood cocktails made of the blood of innocent Chinese female babies that are slaughtered by the Red Chinese policy of infanticide...that sort of thing.
