Why does Bush want the Patriot Act so badly ??
Edited on Tue Jan-03-06 11:36 PM by kentuck
Does he think the Patriot Act renewed will protect him and give him cover for his criminality? What is in the Patriot Act that he so covets? If I were a Democrat, I would be be very careful what I was voting for. I would insist on reading every word before I signed onto anything. George Bush is looking for some excuse to continue his renegade attack upon our Constitution. Don't give it to him. Draw the line Democrats!

2. Because it has been protecting him so far.
I can't wait until it's declared unconstitutional.

4. I don't think he really does.
I think they REALLY want the PA to expire so they can attack us again and blame it on the Democrats because those Democrats let the PA expire and THAT is what kept us safe. Then they will rally the sheeple with FEAR! and steal 2 more elections.JMCPO

5. Right wingers are paranoid people

and the people they don't/can't quite control cause them a lot of freaking out. And of course every thinking person under their control is sick of their constant idiocy and venality and bungling- every sensible person under their thumb (or boot) is always considering rebellion and giving them a knife in the back.

So spying, secrecy, secret information, and informants are pretty indispensible to the way they rule. If they didn't have that, their underlings and opponents would topple and embarrass them at every turn.

6. OT: Sorry for being picky, but it's not "USA Patriot Act".
Many DUers know it, but just a reminder to all that it's actually the "USAPATRIOT Act"--an acronym which stands for "Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism". Nothing about patriotism explicit or implied there.

You aren't patriotic if you don't support it, but somehow I'm sure bush 'n' co. don't mind the shorthand regardless.

14. I wonder how much time they spent, thinking up that acronym?
Probably more than they spent actually looking for real terrorists!

9. I heard today there's specific protection for the domestic wiretap thing
but I don't believe it.

Congress wrote a law specifically against what Chimp did, because it was already being abused by his fore-fascists. Even war powers don't suspend that.

13. Good question. Also, if bush thinks he has to power to ignore any law
he wants why does he need the patriot act at all?
