I really don't care about the Cheney gun story
I know it's been a big deal here on DU the last few days but frankly it's at the bottom of my list of important things facing this nation. I have enjoyed the jokes on late night shows but I promise you that is the worst this is going to get for Cheney. If I don't care about this then I imagine the average american could really care less. Unless someone comes forward and says Cheney was drinking then their is absolutely NOTHING we can do about this. Even if he was drinking and had an accident that effected one person then let that guy sue him. If the lawyer doesn't want to act then thats his right. I don't see where this is an important national issue.

Cheney declassifying CIA Docs is a much more important story and it's getting lost in this stupid gun accident thing. But hey, different strokes for different folks and if it's important to you then thats cool.

2. Agree-"Excuse me, the NSA wiretapping probe has been dropped"
"POTUS has been given the ok to break laws then have them rewritten around his actions..."

Let's focus on the shit that makes a difference.

3. Granted in the scheme of things....
this story is truely an accident...

However; I think it does resonate with the repug hunters out there. They know if they were to be involved with the same type of incident the case wouldn't be closed within a week.

Although events like the shooting may appear to be small insignificant events, I think as the small events continue to pile up (we know there will be more)I think the Repug party will start to splinter. We see that with the group of churches deciding to acknowledge Global warming.

You are right declassifying CIA docs and outing a CIA agent is huge especially because what he did was illegal. But we have to take every incident that they mishandle and acknowledge it and add it to the fire.

Remember they took an insignificant Blowjob to bring Clinton down and made any effort by him to pass legislation impossible. This is what we must do to the * Cabal.:hi:

ATTENTION RITA COSBY: MISSING WHITE WOMAN ALERT

***MISSING WHTE WOMAN ALERT***
name: Pamela Willeford
race: white (duh...)
age: 50ish
sex: f (duh...)
occupation: US Ambassadress to Switzerland
last seen: Sat. 2/11/06, on a ranch in Texas, in the company of the V-POTUS
details: Ms. Willeford is missing after an incident involving firearms and alcohol. SHE MAY BE IN GRAVE DANGER. Please report any information immediately to the authorities.

The drinking game only goes so far, but we've seen from Gary Hart to Clinton to Gary Conduit that a cheating hubbie will destroy a reputation like nothing else...especially if the betrayed has been Lynne "virtuous woman" Chenney.

Yes, the story obscures a lot of the other scandals involving Chenney, but it does not make them go away...surely few of us here at DU have forgotten about them, and neither have investigators such as Pat Fitzgerald. There's too much dirt out there...problem is not making it stick, but finding a corpse underneath all that dirt.

The sad problem is most people disconnect when a story gets too complicated or appears too partisan. It's not that people don't care, they just feel getting too deep into a political issue is like getting into a discussion of religion...they don't want to be bothered. However, when you throw in questions of character...and ones that shed a different light than previously cast, this shouldn't be discounted.

For the past 5 years, the media attempted to portray Chenney as some kindly "grandfather"...the "grown-up" watching over booosh. They were intimidated by the dark side...afraid to even utter the bastard's name for fear of his wrath. Now that shield appears to be gone...this shooting has opened a lot of eyes and ears toward Chenney that didn't see this guy in the same light previously...and this then makes all the other charges and crimes he's committed easier to explain to people and to convince them.

Cheers...

5. I don't care about it, either...
...in the sense that I don't think Cheney shooting a man is as important as the lies about Iraq or the usurpation of the Constitution to spy on Americans or the outing of one of our top undercover WMD experts.

On the other hand, if the Bush cabal basically hands me a mertaphorical crowbar and says "Please hit Dick Cheney's reputation in the face really hard," then I by God am going to smack Dick Cheney's reputation as hard as I can. :)

This is a chance to make Cheney look like an idiot. If people are laughing at Dick, he'll have trouble acting as the "gravitas" of the Bush administration. And that can only be good for our side.

6. It's major worth is that it fits into a general pattern
of reckless aggression and coverup that permeates the policy making of this man. Disregard for the effects of violence and a short fuse plus the willingness to lie through his teeth to make a personal gain or to coverup wrongdoing--Cheney in a nutshell.

7. Well, think about the deep meaning of it
That equality-under-the-law is an American myth.
