OMG Poor Whittington! It's Gruesome ---pix--->>>
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 02:45 PM by Stephanie

The injuries from birdshot are visible on his face as Harry Whittington, the man accidentally shot and wounded by a shotgun blast from the gun of U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney while quail hunting in Texas, speaks to the media outside of Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas February 17, 2006. Whittington is expected to be released from the hospital later in the day. REUTERS/Todd Yates

37. You're a hunter, so let me ask you this question, if I may.
Dick reports that he swung in a counterclockwise direction and that Harry was directly behind him and advancing on him at a distance of 30 yards (**cough**). That means that his gun tracked all the way across Harry's body, from the left to the right side, before shooting primarily his right side. Is that what it suggests to you, too?

So, Dick has no ability to see that what he's just tracked across is not a six inch bird?

59. Where would the Secret Service guys have been standing?
I assume relatively close (10-15 yards) behind Cheney, keeping an eye on things. That would mean he'd have swept past them, too. Wouldn't Cheney know that they'd be behind him?

I think he was just plain careless with his firearm and it discharged accidently. He probably was staggering around with a buzz on and his well-lubed trigger finger slipped.

67. Your scenario is far more likely than his.
Because his makes it look like he couldn't/wouldn't stop himself no matter how much time he had
or how much of his victim (in the blaze orange clothing) he had seen before he shot him.

64. He couldn't have been directly behind in that scenario
He would have to have been to Cheney's left, and maybe a bit behind.

Maybe something like pictured above. It would depend on the Whittington's orientation at the time (e.g. he could have been looking northwest, using the picture's up as north, and therefore have exposed his right side to Cheney.

I didn't know about the skeet and trap, though. You helped me tremendously with that picture of a 28 gauge that you posted. It eliminated the image I had in my head of a much smaller gun and brought home the impact those pellets must have carried. Thanks, again, for that.

33. yeah, here it is - Dick says he had hunting glasses on >
Cheney: I had no idea how serious it was going to be. I mean, it could have been extraordinarily serious. You just don't know at that moment. You know he's been struck, that there's a lot of shot that had hit him. But you don't know -- you think about his eyes. Fortunately, he was wearing hunting glasses, and that protected his eyes. You -- you just don't know. And the key thing, as I say, initially, was that the physician's assistant was right there. We also had an ambulance at the ranch, because one always follows me around wherever I go. And they were able to get the ambulance there, and within about 30 minutes we had him on his way to the hospital.

44. That's strange ~ I just read somewhere else that they called an
ambulance and it took about 30 minutes to get there ~ But Cheney says he went in HIS ambulance:

And the key thing, as I say, initially, was that the physician's assistant was right there. We also had an ambulance at the ranch, because one always follows me around wherever I go. And they were able to get the ambulance there, and within about 30 minutes we had him on his way to the hospital.

What time did he get to the hospital? I remember reading he got there at around 7.30. That would be two hours after the time they claim the accident happened. Or is 7.30 the time he got to the second hospital?

If the accident happened at 5.30 as Cheney claims, and they 'had him on his way to the hospital within 30 minutes, he should have arrived at the hospital around 6.30, assuming it took about 30 minutes to get there ~

And why has no one interviewed the REAL eyewitness, the Swiss Ambassodor?

I'm so glad you're happy for him. Meanwhile he's concerned about his friend Dick. See, that's what he cares about.....Dick! Prayers for people like him are wasted. Say your prayers for someone who deserves it please. There is enough suffering of decent people.

98. I Look At It This Way....
You're walking down the street....you see somebody about to fall in a pothole, you tell them to watch their step. They then turn to you and say...."Thanks for your concern, now go Fuck yourself."

Do you feel proud that you helped them out, and saved them from injury? I guess you probably would.

Me? I'd regret that I even showed concern for a vile human being that would respond in such a manner. If you doubt that whittington would be a good example of this situation, you're naive.

Playing nice and praying for these bastards to somehow see the light, is exactly why the dems are going to continue losing. See, the other side doesn't care about being nice, or praying for us. They're out for themselves. I'm not saying we need to be like them, but praying for their well being is going to get us absolutely nowhere. It would be better to stand up to their garbage and call them what they are.

50. Try this
Go to http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/cheney_whittington;_ylt=Al2iC.hJtOKfT1tScvQTev6s0NUE;_ylu=X3oDMTA2Z2szazkxBHNlYwN0bQ-- which is where the story is, click on the Cheney slideshow (on the left). Whittington's picture is included in the Cheney slideshow (keep typing "sideshow" by mistake.)

28. I think our soldiers look a lot worse after they're blown up
by IEDs in Iraq. Comne to think of it, I think all the thousands of Cheney's Iraq war victims, living and dead, must look a lot worse.

41. Good perspective. Cheney's done worse -- a lot worse.
Maybe side-by-side comparison of Whittington and Faluja white phosphorous victims would illustrate the point.

He looks worse than I expected, actually. For some reason I never took the fact that there would be bruising into account.

I'm glad he seems to be doing better. At his age it's not as easy for the body to fight off infection and heal.

49. Cripes. He's got a yellow face and wears a golden-yellow tie?
Oh. Well. Never mind that. I was just thinking, did Mrs. Armstrong look like that after she "got peppered pretty good a few times" as she indicated to the press?

Someone can now check out the pattern on his face and determine the spread of shot, I hope, to calculate distance from Cheney's gun. I'd like to see Whittington's left hand. Did anyone notice if it has any pellets in it, such as from raising his hand in a defensive gesture?

57. A lot of jaundice
I wonder if that is partially attributable to the liver shot. I wonder whether he has much makeup on?

It probably looks even worse under the business suit. I understand he only put the suit on for the statement, then slipped back into his hospital clothes.

It looks like he was lucky not to get hit in the eye or ear.

82. That could be too.
An older man like this, especially one who took a pellet in the liver, could have some impaired liver function, too. So, there could be multiple factors (including disinfectant, as mentioned above) at work.

Maybe the explanation will come out in time.

81. No.. it's deep bruising. Deep tissue bruises are yellow other colors.
They would have cleaned up the disinfectant before the photo op.. and it would have been in all areas where he was hit. It's deep tissue bruising.

58. Actually he looks better than I expected
Older people bruise very easily -- my dad, who's about same age as Whittington, can bump his hand on something and get a nasty looking bruise in a matter of minutes. I would like to see the extent of his wounds around his neck and chest to get a better idea. And I'd still like to know whether the pellet that is lodged in his heart actually migrated, or penetrated the skin closer to the heart. Where did it enter?

And, yes, he's damned lucky Cheney didn't shoot his eye out.

101. VERY different than what I saw on CNN
Wow! I just saw him up on Wolf's big-brother-like Situation Room giant screen. With the shifting graphics and different screens, you could never tell that he was this beat up. You couldn't see the bruising very much at all. I was thinking that he didn't look bad at all. But this picture tells a totally different story. It will be interesting to see if Fox uses some fancy way to hide the extent of his injuries as well. On the text below, it said "From friend to friend." What a joke. Cheney called him an "acquaintance" the other day when pressed about it. And him apologizing to Cheney is just ridiculous. Boy, I really feel like I'm living in Orwell's 1984.

105. I can't watch CNN anymore, off the cable here, and I'm not sad
I have to go digital first...

I still remember the shock I felt when CNN began beating the War Drums. Until then, I thought they were the network of record.

Now, they and the NYT have to call themselves to be the news source "of record" just like Fox is fair and balanced.

 :eyes: :wtf:
