Hey Reid and Schumer - want to fuck around with Senate races?
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 03:01 PM by WildEyedLiberal
How about this one, then:

James Webb vs. Harris Miller in Virginia.

Webb is a Republican, a RW member of Reagan's cabinet, who enabled and supported the SWIFT BOAT VETERANS FOR BUSH. He denies atrocities occured in Vietnam and would rather blame KERRY for his principled protest of that war than acknowledge the TRUTH.

Harris Miller is a lifelong Democratic activist who has donated thousands of his own money to Democratic candidates in Virgina over the years. He will represent Virginia as a DEMOCRAT, not as a Rovian Swiftboat enabler and war apologist.

Make no mistake about it: Webb is a RIGHT-WINGER and if elected will be not another Lieberman, but another ZELL MILLER.

If Reid and Schumer are so hyperactive about Senate races, how about they throw their support behind the REAL Dem in this race?

Webb has the best chance of bloodying up Allen and taking him out of the PResidential race.

BTW Webb is getting in the race because of his opposition to the Iraq War...making him quite different from Zell Miller.

He has criticized Bush for the Swift Boat attacks

"The casting of suspicion and doubt about the actions of veterans who have run against President Bush or opposed his policies has been a constant theme of his career. This pattern of denigrating the service of those with whom they disagree risks cheapening the public's appreciation of what it means to serve, and in the long term may hurt the Republicans themselves.

"A young American now serving in Iraq might rightly wonder whether his or her service will be deliberately misconstrued 20 years from now, in the next rendition of politically motivated spinmeisters who never had the courage to step forward and put their own lives on the line.

3. Check out his website, Jameswebb.com
He is eager and willing to trash Kerry's honorable service and impugn his courageous stance against the war. I can't support anyone who aides the Swifties, sorry.

5. Here is the article you mentioned...it is bad...
And contrary to his later statements...

I'll vote for Miller in the primary, even though I know he will be the weakest candidate against Allen and will not stand a prayer in the general. However I have no doubt that Webb will be the nominee.

2. Most Virginia Democrats are slightly conservative.
Both candidates would make good Senators and both can defeat Allen. IMHO, Virginia has grown tired of the empty suit candidate spewing hate and divisiveness (like in the Kilgore campaign).

Save your attacks for the Repubs.

4. Webb isn't any better than Zell or Lieberman
I don't think Webb is a real Democrat; he endorsed Allen over Robb in 2000. I generally agree that one should support even a centrist Dem over a Republican, but Webb is no mere centrist. He's a right-wing Swiftie enabler and I can't in good conscience support him.

6. Lieberman is no Zell...
He is a bootlicker which is why I would not mind seeing him defeated. But on most issues has a pretty progressive voting record. Zell is a right wing Republican through and through

7. Lieberman's deteriotating further and further to the right though
I never liked Lieberman but I never wholeheartedly supported calls for his defeat UNTIL I heard that he had been on Hannity's radio show, yukking it up and accepting Hannity's endorsement (WTF!?!) and bashing the rest of the Democratic party as "far left fringe." I'm a pretty hardcore yellow dog Dem and would support just about any Dem over a Republican, but there HAS to be a point where you draw the line and enough is enough. Zell crossed that line; Lieberman getting fellated by Hannity, whom I hate more than just about any Repuke talking head, crossed that line; and Webb, who has never renounced his hardcore rightwing past and who supports the Swifties, crosses that line.

8. Well that turned me off to him too...
But until I see evidence in the positions he takes...I still say he is not quite at that level.

9. Perhaps. I still support Lamont in CT
He may not win, and I don't live in CT so it's a moot point anyway, but the thought of Lieberman schmoozing with Hannity is beyond vomit-inducing.
