Nooses Placed On Black Firefighters' Gear

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two black firefighters at a downtown Jacksonville fire station reported finding hangman's nooses on their gear when they arrived at work Friday morning.

The fire station at Duval and Jefferson streets downtown was shut down as police investigate the incident.

WJXT's Melanie Lawson learned that Rufus Smith found a noose on his suit when he reported to work at 7 a.m. Smith immediately reported it to his superiors.

Roderick Laws, the only other black firefighter at the station, also found a noose, according to WJXT-TV.
