4. Paper ballots would be a big step backward
Much more easily manipulated than computers, IMO.

20. Here's how they do it up north
From: http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20031211.html

My model for smart voting is Canada. The Canadians are watching our election problems and laughing their butts off. They think we are crazy, and they are right.

Forget touch screens and electronic voting. In Canadian Federal elections, two barely-paid representatives of each party, known as "scrutineers," are present all day at the voting place. If there are more political parties, there are more scrutineers. To vote, you write an "X" with a pencil in a one centimeter circle beside the candidate's name, fold the ballot up and stuff it into a box. Later, the scrutineers AND ANY VOTER WHO WANTS TO WATCH all sit at a table for about half an hour and count every ballot, keeping a tally for each candidate. If the counts agree at the end of the process, the results are phoned-in and everyone goes home. If they don't, you do it again. Fairness is achieved by balanced self-interest, not by technology. The population of Canada is about the same as California, so the elections are of comparable scale. In the last Canadian Federal election the entire vote was counted in four hours. Why does it take us 30 days or more?

25. Both are equally manipulatable, but there's a VAST DIFFERENCE
where one manipulated central tabulator that counts millions of votes can be massaged to change a whole state election and a couple of these central tabulators can change the whole country and the whole world. The fraud on machines is exponentially greater. As Avi Rubin says, it's the difference between retail fraud and WHOLESALE FRAUD.

And why would you say paper is more easily manipulated than computers? Bev Harris taught a chimpanzee to hack the Diebold central tabulator and showed it in a video.

And with paper at least there's a good chance of finding evidence. With the central tabulator fraud, as evidenced in the Hursti hack in Leon County FL, there's not a trace of evidence left after the hack takes place.

5. Every day the same thing...
...and yet you offer nothing for us to do to get these paper ballots and hand counts "NOW" besides shouting about it.

23. It might be an effective tool for getting people to do something.
If someone's concerned about something enough to post about it every day, and yet they're still doing nothing about it but shouting every day, nor are they showing what other people can do, there's something missing there.

I don't see how it's "fighting the left" to encourage people into real, actual activism for a cause they're concerned about.

10. Do you have a suggestion?
a plan? Me personally, I think it's too late. I think unless people take this to the streets and shout it from the roof tops and march, and "sit-in" and do all the crazy wonderful things we saw in the 60's....AND THEN SOME......it's too late. So, I will not be wasting my time and gas driving to a voting booth to toss my worthless vote to a machine that will no doubt (and I have NO DOUBT) flip it for a Repuke.
Nor will I vote for any Democrat that can't stand up and say END THE WAR, enough is enough! As far as I can see anymore, they're all (most of them anyhow) in bed together.

22. No.
We all have different issues we're promoting. Mine isn't really the thing about the voting machines, but I do come here to steer people in Illinois to Illinois Dem Net, which serves as a way to get people involved in politics in Illinois (both national and local):

http://www.illinoisdemnet.com

I guess my point is, that I've found a way to channel my want to get other people involved in what I feel is important, as well as a way to get involved myself, and the original poster hasn't done anything but yell about it.

And this I just find self-destructive and paranoid:

So, I will not be wasting my time and gas driving to a voting booth to toss my worthless vote to a machine that will no doubt (and I have NO DOUBT) flip it for a Repuke.

26. Would it be a novel idea to you if I told you to get involved at the loca
l electoral level. Do I have to tell you how to petrition your government? Do I really have to tell you what to do? Seriously! I can if you like. I can suggest any number of things from alligning yourself actively and financially with progressive organizations to running for an office yourself.

I hardly feel it should be neccesary to defend my original post which proclaims a sentiment that I believe the majority of Americans share. Regardless of the support it is free speech expression of an individual for which you can choose to ignore if you so choose. Perhaps since you choose to ridicule instead of offering solutions yourself you could be accused of tripe as you accuse me. Maybe you could respond with your own litany of "solutions".

In all sicerity I do apologize if my simple post annoys you or others. I regret I find it neccesary in the first place. However I will never give up demanding a fair and transparent electoral process. If we all demanded and proclaimed a unified call for paper ballots and hand counts on a daily basis in the public eye vis-a-vis editorials, marches, pickets, sit-ins, petitions, strikes, lawsuits, etc then and only then will the powers that be be forced to act according to the peoples will.
