it MIGHT INTERFERE WITH THE INVESTIGATION. (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(February 17, 2006 -- 04:34 PM EDT // link)

Roll Call (sub.req.): "The Department of Justice has instructed the Senate Ethics Committee to steer clear of any investigations into actions involving ex-lobbyist Jack Abramoff, warning the panel it has “concerns” that any such probes could interfere with its long-running investigation."

2. so the executive branch tells Congress not to investigate--now, if we
had a Congress that defended our Constitution, the first thing they would do would be to say--Take a hike.

I am waiting.

3. Actually they could interfere by granting immunity to witnesses.
That sort of thing has happened before allowing perpetrators to evade justice. It saved the pResident the trouble of pardoning them. So actually, I don't necessarily think this was a bad thing, I was afraid that they were going to screw up this thing in exactly that manner.

4. You're right
That's how Ollie North and John Poindexter had their convictions overturned on appeal. Little technicalities. But, then again it does have help to have the appeals court in your pocket.

5. If this order is from the "good guys" at DOJ, it is probably a good thing
But if they are outnumbered, and it's the stonewallers at DOJ who don't want any more spotlights on their sleazy Congresspeople, then it's bogus.

Watching all of this play out is something, isn't it?
