Today it must be really hard to defend supporting Bush/Cheney
Most of the Repukes I know are silent about politics these days. They appear grim and tense.

Imagine how difficult it must be to go against everything you know to be right and good for you? Imagine watching your Lord and Savior Jesus turned into a bloodthirsty, angry warlord rather than a man who advocated helping the poor and practicing peace and forgiveness and tolerance?

It has to be a real strain to "go through the motions" every day. I imagine the Bushbots see their pain as some sort of sacrifice made for their salvation rather than a symptom of a government that does not care one bit about them.

Repukes:

Your children are suffering

Your elderly are suffering

Your neighbor is suffering

Your soldiers are dying

People are being tortured in your name

People are being killed in your name

Your nation's ports will be in control of the Saudis

Your nation's money is in the hands of the Chinese

Your nation's reputation is lower than that of Satan

You're losing your jobs, your homes, your retirement, your healthcare, your protection in the courts, your privacy, your clean air and water.

Your cities are crumbling

And you cheer it all on!

I can't imagine how people do it: how do they continue to support **?

Can anyone explain it to me?

1. That is why you do not put people upon...
a pedestal. Hey, I liked Clinton alot, but I never looked at him as a demigod. He was doing a pretty good job, and that was good enough for me. He also did not try to turn America upside down, like the current idiot.

2. Battered citizens' syndrome
It's like battered wife's syndrome, in that some support Bush out of fear, and some because they think that Bush is what they deserve ("I'm not rich now, and it's my fault, but if I win the Lotto, I want all those tax cuts!"). The interesting part will come when they finally realize that it isn't worth staying with this abusive administration. Then they will either leave quietly--or vehemently, shall we say.

3. Even if they hang onto beliefs, more of "Them" are silenced every day
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 03:27 PM by pat_k
. . . Some will never see the truth, but their active support and defense of the fascists erodes. Fewer of them bother to vote. Their ideas fade from the public mind as their silence grows.

4. they use the K.I.S.S. principle
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 03:29 PM by kenny blankenship
They keep it simple:
"Everyone but George W. Bush is a terrorist or terrorist sympathizer"
To listen to critics of Bush or assent to any criticism of him would be to give aid and comfort to terrorists. Bush is therefore always right, even when he's wrong. He's always right, because the mistakes he makes are pointed out by the "wrong people", people with the "wrong motive", and therefore the mistakes never happen--with the result that Bush is infallible, just like they always said he was.

8. Please add:
"Children were raped in front of their parents in YOUR name."

I have been thinking about this quite a bit lately, saying to myself, "I'm glad I'm not the one who feels like she has to defend them!"

Peace.

10. Sure, I can explain...
You just don't get where they're coming from. Let me give you the answers from their perspective. First, let me get a nose clip; I can't hold my nose and type at the same time.

<conservative>

Imagine watching your Lord and Savior Jesus turned into a bloodthirsty, angry warlord rather than a man who advocated helping the poor and practicing peace and forgiveness and tolerance?

Onward Christian soldiers, baby. Praise Jesus and pass the ammunition. The poor will always be with us, it's in the Bible. And forgiveness and tolerance? Nope, there are plenty of Pauline verses to tell you why and how you're going to hell. Especially Muslims, they're all terrorists!!

Your children are suffering

It's Clinton's fault. Besides which, the economy's fine. Haven't you been listening to Hannity?!?

Your elderly are suffering

If they didn't plan for retirement it's their own damn fault. Don't ask me to pay for other people's mistakes!! And they'd be better off if it wasn't for Clinton.

Your neighbor is suffering

No he's not. His credit cards are taking care of him just fine. And if he was, I'll sympathize, but don't expect me to give up my hard-earned dollars to subsidize his failures. I have my limits, and I'm so sick of entitlement programs. And if the economy's in trouble, it's because of Clinton policies. 9/11 happened because he didn't do anything about the USS Cole and he never tried to take bin Ladin out. It's a miracle that President Bush has been able to hold things together after the mess that Clinton left him with!!!

Your soldiers are dying

They're heroes! And even bringing it up damages morale! Why do you hate America? You want us to lose the war on terror!

People are being tortured in your name

We don't torture. The President says so. Besides, what's a little nakedness anyway? Like Rush said, it's no worse than fraternity pranks, and they were probably all terrorists anyway.

People are being killed in your name

As long as it's not Americans being killed, who cares? I just wish we could put liberals over there with the terrorists and kill them, too!!

Your nation's ports will be in control of the Saudis

That's a lie, if it was true, FoxNews would tell us all about it! Besides, the Saudis are the good guys, it's Iraq where the terrorists are from!!

Your nation's money is in the hands of the Chinese

No, the nation's money is coming back into our pockets thanks to the Bush tax cuts!! It's Clinton that loves the Chinese!!

Your nation's reputation is lower than that of Satan

That's BS. Everyone loves America except for the terrorists and the liberals and the French. But who wants a bunch of whiny people and towelheads and snail eaters around anyway? LOL.

You're losing your jobs, your homes, your retirement, your healthcare, your protection in the courts, your privacy, your clean air and water.

My job's doing OK, I can pay for my home, retirement wouldn't be necessary if people could just plan for the future. No one has lost protection in the courts, I dare you to prove it!! And if you're not a terrorist, you wouldn't have to be scared of anyone listening to you. And the air and water are cleaner than they've ever been, Bush and the Republican Congress passed a Clean Air and Water Act, not like the do-nothing Dems!!

Your cities are crumbling

Not in my neighborhood, and if you haven't made life choices good enough to get you a decent home, then I don't care, it's your fault. Don't come crying to me OR ask me for my hard-earned tax dollars.

</conservative>

OK, give me a minute to go throw up...

I'm back. Here's the thing: most Republicans that I know don't think that things are worse, or if they do, they blame it on 9/11 (and yes, many blame 9/11 on Clinton). If they think that things are getting worse, they think that their case is isolated because Sean and Rush and FOXNews tell them that things are just fine and dandy and getting better all the time. You're dealing with a lot of people who are intellectually and emotionally heteronomous; in other words, they're bleating sheep who allow a certain set of people to tell them how they think and feel.

11. They simply cannot admit they were wrong to support * and the Dick.
That would mean admitting that we were right all along. The Bushbots are psychologically incapable of giving ground to the opposition in that way.

Apparently, they would rather be seen as delusional fools than admit a mistake. Talk about pride!
