Prove to me this is NOT going to happen:
These HAVE happened:

* companies offshore
* company leaders move their wealth to non-US currencies; some of them also making snide remarks about the dollar.

I suspect this will happen:

* More company execs will leave America entirely
* politicians will follow, citing some event
* something nasty will knock out America entirely that will neatly rid our dependence on oil. (America alone uses over 25% of the produced quantities as it stands.)

I'm probably wrong; I've been wrong in lots of things before, of that I know for a fact. So take what I'm saying with a grain of salt, as I am.

1. You Can't Prove a Negative
So all one can do is refute a few of your observations.

You're right about offshoring and offshore wealth-stashing.

You're probably wrong that American company execs will leave --more likely they'll find new undertasks to outsource.

You're probably wrong that politicians will leave. Their egos are too big, and abroad there's no one to fawn over them.

You may be right about "something nasty," but there are too many big countries selling their stuff to us, for them to allow something that big to happen. God forbid -- even a nuke in LA harbor! Georgie would simply wrinkle up his face and give a speech about how the rest of the country needs to pull together. (And we're really all on our own, facing terrorism, ain't we? Like after Katrina we expect these clowns to actually DO SOMETHING TO PROTECT US???)

6. Not if you Live 10 Miles from LAX
and 10 miles from LA Harbor. Al Qaeda usually comes back to targets they miss. Me and my family fly through LAX all the time. Nothing can be done about it, we just live with it.

What's it to Bush and his Texican aristos if Cali takes a nuke?

2. america is the greatest place to be a consumer
all our manufacturing and export infrastructure is crumbling, but the import and distribution infrastructure is fantastic. this is a great place to be a consumer and to be wealthy.

rich people will simply offshore their income and their investments, but they will physically remain here and enjoy their wealth.

5. Company execs won't leave
unless a judge finally realizes it's time to nail them all for embezzlement over their outrageous salary packages. The US is the world's softest touch for corporations and the corporate head offices will be kept here, even if it's an executive suite, only, with all the actual office WORK done in Bhopal or Mumbai.

However, if you see people named Rockefeller, Koch, Mellon, or several other of the main players do a bunk, you know it's time to use that passport you've kept current.

You do have a passport, don't you?
