1. An attempt to intimidate
that isn't going to work.

2. They can't sue him for THAT! They're trying to scare him.
He didn't even accuse anyone of aything, just suggested it's possible! This guy should go to the next meeting and say it again!

3. I'm a bit familiar with that area.
The vibe I've always gotten is "Don't you dare question MY authority."

Anyone live in that area who can enlighten us further?

4. La Mesa is a "Red" town where people dont question authority..
Many Navy and retired navy/dependants here who just dont question authority at all.
I live in La Mesa and have noticed this for years. Now drive a mile and a half from La Mesa city hall and you are in San Diego proper where its much different. The repugs win most of the time but other points of view are accepted and often screamed out.
People in my neighborhood are brainwashed, truly frightened of "terraists" and adore "W".

5. Man, sounds like he touched a raw nerve!!

La Mesa is an incorporated suburb east of San Diego so they have their own city government. The newspaper article kind of confused the San Diego city council and the La Mesa city council.

Of all the San Diego council meeting I've been to I've heard a lot of accusations fly, but I've never seen the members do anything but sit, listen and offer a polite "thank you for your comments".

Around here, a comment that the developers are getting special treatment from local government is not a slanderous remark--like noting the color of the sky--it is simply a statement of the obvious.

Edited to remove the "UN" from unincorporated. D'oh!

7. La Mesa is an incorporated city with its own mayor, police & fire dept.

The Mayor, Art Madrid, has held his office for some 16 years now. He sits like a king and wins by landslides every election.

8. This wouldn't be about you, would it mavric?
You probably cannot comment on an on-going investigation. :D

Somehow I got the impression you lived in OB.

I edited my post to fix the unincorporated error, thanks for the correction.

9. I'm an OB wannabe. Soon to moving there.
OB is my favorite place on this planet, but for now I'm trapped in La Mesa due to credit checks and property management companies that wont rent to anyone in OB with "imperfect credit".
Its not about me. This article just enraged me as to common citizens not being able to speak out against the status-quo and being threatened if they do so.

6. Good grief. Sounds familiar.
Our city council thinks they are little emperors, too. They are antagonistic towards anyone who speaks against them. I can't tell you how many times I've been told, "You shouldn't be saying that." Once the mayor called me (the MAYOR!) and told me "as a friend" to stop speaking against the city council. I told him, "T-----," (I called him by his first name, since, you know, we're friends) "I'm never going to shut up. I'm a taxpayer."

10. If this guy is successfully sued it may set a precedant.
Dissent will no longer be tolerated in GWB's "Murikkka".

11. Now this would be something for him to canvass/campaign on.
If he is trying to do what is right, no better time to knock on some doors and let the people of San Diego hear whats being done.
