Lance Armstrong vs. Sheryl Crow: George W. Bush to Blame?
The Star details that a friend of the singer said they knew the bust up was coming.

"Sheryl said Lance didn't just support Bush, - he'd go off and fight if the president asked him too.

Recall Crow sported a "War is not the answer," tee-shirt last July and Lance answered by biking with Bush in August of 2005.

I respect his accomplishments, but he needs to seriously work on those people skills.

20. i've met him (several times) and agree - he is a complete ass
arrogant prick - tho some people claim that is how he was able to win i respectfully disagree.
eddie merckx was a great racer, and still a nice man off the bike. Indurain was a great racer and a nice man on AND off the bike.

Armstrong was a great Tour de France racer, and he has brought his fame to help cancer patients which is fabulous - but he is still a class A jerk.

You clearly met the same man that I did.

Like I said, I have mad respect for everything he has done, but I just found him to be insanely arrogant.

3. It would be really hard to be married to someone with so little regard
for human decency.

I am so glad Mr kt isn't a kool-aid drinking follower of king george.

17. "So little regard for decency?"
So his establishment of a foundation for cancer survivors, and his long record of support for (and visiting) children with cancer are evidence of his indecency? His extraordinary devotion to his own children and his mom mean nothing? His ability to discipline himself for years and years to live a near-ascetic lifestyle so he could take a shot at realizing all his potential - after being given up for dead because of testicle cancer in the late 90s - are all for naught because you don't like who he votes for?

I'm not sure I'd want to spend my next vacation drinking beers with Armstrong, and I'm sure we don't vote the same way, but he's a decent guy by any meaningful definition of decent. What you mean is his politics are different from ours. Decency does not depend on a person's ideology, it depends on their actions, and Armstrong's actions are ok in my book. More than ok.

Peace.

31. Desency was referring to IF he's a bush voter.
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 08:33 PM by Kerrytravelers
There are plenty of bush voters who do many wonderful things for people, but we still tend to think they they are very selfish in trms of how they ultimately vote. The topic was whether she left him over differences on how they view the world, according to a tabloid--- not his cancer work. I was referring to IF he's a bush voter, NOT his cancer work. Never thought I would have to be that specific when I posted.

Edited to add: I actually don't hold the Crawford bike ride against him I understand that causes are beyond politics, like Bono and the One Campaign. However, anyone who voted for * truly disgusts me, no matter what else they do. It's a very definitive character flaw, IMHO.

11. Bullshit, Lance Doesn't Support Bush
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 05:57 PM by Southpawkicker
and a site that quotes the "Star" isn't going to convince me of it either!

See these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lance_Armstrong#Political_possibilities
and:
Once we settle down to talk at a long wooden table, we are swapping stories about George W. Bush, his fellow Texan. We agree that our politics are different to Bush's, but that the President is smarter, funnier and more likeable than the caricature. Even Sheryl, whose politics Armstrong describes as "way out Left", says that it's hard to meet Bush and not like him. I had assumed, because he and Bush were Texans and I'd seen pictures of them laughing and joking in the Oval Office, that Armstrong was a Republican. But he says his politics are "middle to Left". He is "against mixing up State and Church, not keen on guns, pro women's right to choose". And very anti war in Iraq.

24. Man, I have heard that a million times........
You just can't help but like him. How can that be? We know he's a lying son of a bitch who is sending our kids to die for his grand ambitions. You know I hear that Ted Bundy was really likeable too, but if the people that met him had know he was a serial killer beforehand, you know, I think that just may have altered their view a little bit.

13. Why wait for the pResident to ask?
If he is a big supporter of Dubya and his admins policies, he should do a Tillman. I'm sure that it would be a boost for enlistment to see the second jock, in only three friggin years, give it up and go kick some "raghead" ass.

He just died from friendly fire in a war that he did believe in, Afghanistan.

But he didn't like Bush.

... got treated (for cancer) at the same clinic that treated Mr. Armstrong.

She reported that Mr. Armstrong is not highly regarded by the staff of said clinic. The word "asshole" was apparently the most common description.

Although she could be half his age and still be that. That would be easy.
