Abu Ghraib - The Sequel - Starts in 10 Minutes -This is it Folks -New Pics
or watch in Real Player here: http://www.worldlinktv.org/programming/programDescription.php4?code=date_abu

You've heard about the shocking new Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse pictures just released by Australia's Dateline. Now tune in for the whole story! As the sole U.S. broadcaster of Dateline, Link TV is the only place where you can view the expose in it's entirety. Then we bring you the media reaction from the Middle East, with analysis by Link TV's Director of Middle Eastern Programming, Jamal Dajani. We show you the string of incidents that has Muslim world in an uproar.

A serious warning - some of the images in this program are very disturbing and may offend.

International Dateline broadcasts shocking new photos and video of abuses committed at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq. Before SBS Dateline's original broadcast in Australia on February 14th, many of these images were never shown to the public.

These new images reveal further widespread abuse including new incidents of apparent torture and sexual humiliation. The extent of the abuse shown in the photos suggests that the abuse that occurred at Abu Ghraib prison in 2003 is much worse than previously reported.

When the original Abu Ghraib photographs were leaked to the press in 2004, members of the U.S, Congress were given a private viewing of additional photographs and videotapes including the images which appear in this Dateline program, according to the producers. The images shown to Congress were not released to the public, reportedly due to the fear that the release of these images showing American military personnel and contractors would inflame passions in the Middle East. Despite the currently heated international climate, the Dateline producers in Australia decided to air this footage now because they believe it conveys the extent of the horror that occurred at Abu Ghraib.

8. I disagree.
I understand your point, however the propagandists have claimed that there was not torture. The pictures clearly show otherwise. Also, even these pictures are not the worst of the lot. The ACLU is still trying to force the release of even more brutal photographs.

Furthermore, why exactly should the world not know what we have done? Should the documentary evidence of other atrocities have been repressed as well?

It's like a daily roulette wheel of Bush ruination. Every number is a disgrace. It's hard to pick out which is the worst of the worst. But I smell smoke from the 39% screaming toward 20% already.

12. ...and I agree with you....
... the deeds our government has done in the name of foreign policy, remain unseen and unspoken. The parallel conversations that have been taking place for decades have to stop, and the reality needs to be shoved in people's faces. Denial is not the answer.

http://www.aliveness.com/kangaroo/CIAtimeline.html
A Timeline of CIA Atrocities By Steve Kangas
The following timeline describes just a few of the hundreds of atrocities and crimes committed by the CIA.

CIA operations follow the same recurring script. First, American business interests abroad are threatened by a popular or democratically elected leader. The people support their leader because he intends to conduct land reform, strengthen unions, redistribute wealth, nationalize foreign-owned industry, and regulate business to protect workers, consumers and the environment. So, on behalf of American business, and often with their help, the CIA mobilizes the opposition. First it identifies right-wing groups within the country (usually the military), and offers them a deal: "We'll put you in power if you maintain a favorable business climate for us." The Agency then hires, trains and works with them to overthrow the existing government (usually a democracy). It uses every trick in the book: propaganda, stuffed ballot boxes, purchased elections, extortion, blackmail, sexual intrigue, false stories about opponents in the local media, infiltration and disruption of opposing political parties, kidnapping, beating, torture, intimidation, economic sabotage, death squads and even assassination. These efforts culminate in a military coup, which installs a right-wing dictator. The CIA trains the dictator’s security apparatus to crack down on the traditional enemies of big business, using interrogation, torture and murder. The victims are said to be "communists," but almost always they are just peasants, liberals, moderates, labor union leaders, political opponents and advocates of free speech and democracy. Widespread human rights abuses follow.

This scenario has been repeated so many times that the CIA actually teaches it in a special school, the notorious "School of the Americas." (It opened in Panama but later moved to Fort Benning, Georgia.) Critics have nicknamed it the "School of the Dictators" and "School of the Assassins." Here, the CIA trains Latin American military officers how to conduct coups, including the use of interrogation, torture and murder.

28. I am not as generous as you
with regard to those who would seem to advocate for the suppression of these photographs and video. For what purpose would such valuable evidence be suppressed? All U.S. Americans are morally obligated to view this material so we can see the crimes that are being committed in our names, payed for with the revenue of our taxes.

Perhaps one day these images can be used in the prosecution of the filthy, amoral dross who now control our government.

I enjoy your posts. You seem to always have something of value to say.

34. Thanks and welcome to DU.
I don't disagree with you. Eventually we are going to have to go through a 'truth and reconciliation' process as painful and honest as Germany or South Africa went through. Eventually our 'KGB files' are going to get dragged out in the open as were the Russian's after the collapse of their tyranny. Those who are still alive when that happens are going to get held to account. But the American people, in general are going to have to make a huge adjustment in their view of themselves and their nation's role in recent history. It is not going to be pretty.

30. I understand your point, but I disagree with it.
(And NO, that doesn't mean I dislike you for your position on this! :toast: )

The most important responsiblility our country has right now, is to make sure that the people responsible inside our government be punished for these horrific, SYSTEMIC, war crimes. This has not even come close to happening yet.

If we do not do this, then Islamic/Global respect from the world will NEVER be regained. I do not argue that we will defeat terrorism if we punish our leaders - that would be stupid to think. It's only the first step back in the correct direction. If we, the USA, are to EVER be taken seriously again when we claim to represent the BEST this world has to offer when it comes to human rights, then this issue MUST be corrected.

If we wash this under the rug, the only people it will make happy are the Americans that don't want to face the facts and live in a fantasy land - a land that is distinct from the rest of the world. That will ONLY create more hatred, disrespect, and terrorism from the rest of the world/Islamic world towards America.

In short, burying OUR heads in the sand will only make us MORE vulnerable.

According to Salon, "the files, from the Army's Criminal Investigation Command (CID), include hundreds of images that have never been publicly released." 32. Why do I have the HORRIBLE feeling that this is a set up for an attack?
Why now?
Before they want an excuse to attack Iran?
Why are these images being released now?
As Cheney has prepared STRATCOM to bomb
Iran in the event of another attack in the US.
What better provocation than the combination
of the "cartoons" and these images?
I shudder to think of their motives.

35. I just watched this stuff! Stay tuned for more stuff on Thursday evening!
They were not only showing Dateline's show of the Abu Ghraib fotos, but Al-Jazeera's coverage of it, as well as Muslim protests all over the world in places like Tehran, Turkey, Syria, etc. They say that all of these events happening together (these photos coming out, the cartoon picture mess, the clip of British soldiers beating prisoners, and earlier riots in France are all collectively really building the foundations of a religious war.

In the middle of the program (looks like it had been hastily edited, Link TV folks noted that later this week there will be about four hours of stuff called "Lifting the Fog" on Thursday evening at around 5:00 PST, 8:00 EST. Now currently in the online Dish Network channel guide, it shows up only for an hour and a half starting at 7:30 PM PST, but I suspect they will revise the programming guide for that night as it gets closer.
