"I'm Honest; I'm a Democrat"
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 08:51 PM by understandinglife
As much as I defend and honor the tradition of "liberal" and "progressive," those meme are not relevant to the crisis we confront.

"Centrist" and "moderate" - Republican flavor or Democratic - are merely euphemisms for lame, ineffective wimps.

Bush, Cheney, Rove, Rice, Hastert, DeLay, ........ are NOT "conservatives," they are criminal neoconsters committed to oligarchy, empire, no civil rights, fake elections, totalitarian, corporatist government.

The day of the "conservative" Republican v. the "liberal" Democrat are long over (as many of you realize); allowing the Republican corporatist to use those memes is witting participation in a deadly distraction from their unrelenting destruction of our Constitution, our Republic, humanity and the planet.

The contrast is Honest Democrat - a defender of transparency, human rights and accountability - Vs. dishonest republican - a lying imperialistic corporatist thug.

The day has arrived when you are a Democrat if you are honest, you are a Republican if you are a liar.

You are a Democrat if you defend the Constitution, you are a Republican if you work every day to destroy it.

Are you honest, if so, join the Democratic Party. If not ....

It is just than simple.

Peace.

1. I agree.
For right now our choices are limited if we are to have a country left at all. Recommended.

2. Vote Democratic - Honest!
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 08:49 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
but then we have to BE the party we say we are. Let's get a majority and do some real housekeeping on election integrity. lobbying, campaign finance - those particular issues that make Democracy for sale to the highest bidder.

6. I agree with the analysis
But I'm not sure that that is the best way to put it when speaking to those who aren't ready to hear it put like that.

You may be right though, I just don't know.

Right now I think that we're in our worst crisis since just before the Civil War, and it's going to take a lot of work and good thinking to get out of it.

9. Perhaps as bad as when old Jeff Davis left the Senate; maybe as bad as ...
... 1775. We're definitely in the deep stinky stuff and I just don't see any other approach than being blatantly direct.

If you're honest, you're an American defending the Constitution and that means you are a Democrat.

Deny the brand "honest" to anyone else.

Line in the sand time.

Thank you, my friend.

Peace.

13. I'm reading a book by George Lakoff now
"Dont think of an elephant -- know your values and frame the debate"

It has some ideas in it that I hadn't thought of that I need to do some thinking about. I don't know how many I will agree with by the time I'm done, but it seems worth at least reading.

12. Honor and integrity...
and THE RULE OF LAW!

These elected officials aren't Americans. They are IMPOSTERS posing as Americans. How else can you explain the lack of concern for our Constitution and our Civil Liberties? All of the Senators that have turned their back on the people and the principles of this country MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. We keep seeing this happen over and over and over and over again. When will WE, THE PEOPLE, take our country back?

Peace.

Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 01:49 AM by seabeyond
i am lame. ineffective. i say screw you. wink

i say it in tease as much as anything. not like your post which i assume you are serious. doesnt do the left dems any good to dismiss the majority you know. since the majority is going to be center, i would think it would behoove you to embrace us and welcome us in the efforts to defeat bush

16. Embraces are a two-way thing, though.
To embrace means meeting at some point. I was just reading some other places tonight on the internet where so many are saying they will be better off with nothing than the Democratic Party.

Well, guess what, that is what all of us will have...nothing at all.

I sort of reel when I read at 3 forums tonight that it would be best to not win at all. Trouble is, we are dealing with some real extreme right wingers who want to kill Medicare, Social Security, and Medicaid.

The ones in the administration have no consciences and no souls.

If we don't have some semblance of a party, then who will fight them.

I don't think anyone is brushing off progressives....I think that many want us to do the battle and call them if we win. I don't see that a group of people doing their own thing will benefit any of us.

18. i am a moderate. not even a democrat, yet i stand with the
democratic party more than a lot of people that call themselves dems. i can see the things dems have done and accomplished, i dont have to attack and weaken the party. i know how to be a team player...... i want the repugs out. i hear a lot of people that are not necessarily dems that have come on this board and support the dems more than the actual dems. we want bush out and we put all our weight behind the democratic party to win. we have made the choice of what party needs to be in power. that is the goal.

17. Well, if you want that label to be what the Party stands or falls on...
...we'd better hold off until we've purged an AWFUL LOT of Democrats at all levels who are plenty venal, self-serving, greedy, and manipulative, too.

Else in a few years we'll look just as stupid as the GOPpies look now with their "bringing honor and integrity back to the White House" line ringing two tones flat.

Frankly, a healthy percentage of ALL politicians are pretty crooked, it's the nature of the beast. Politics attracts people who want to save the world (Lord, protect us from them!) people who want to line their own pockets (if they're smart enough to balance the voters' interests while doing so, I can usually live with 'em,) people who want to change this, that, or the other (If I agree with what they want to change, I'll put up with them for awhile,) poor slobs who really think they can do the job to the best interests of all the people (sometimes fun, sometimes excruciatingly painful to watch, but usually harmless and occasionally beneficial,) and people who are attracted to the sheer naked POWER to bolster their own sad little egos (dangerous as hell, run the other way FAST.) And those types come in red AND blue, Dem AND GOPpie, right AND left.

Sorry. I'd prefer our Party to stand or fall on what we can accomplish to restore and protect Constitutional rights, repair the social contract, deliver health care and decent retirement to working Americans, and remedy the awful damage done to our credibility and influence in world politics.

cynically,
Bright

20. UL, I wish it were that simple. I believe back when the initial Repug
(which differs from Repub*) plans were being employed to take over the country, the idea was made to infiltrate ouur party as well. I believe that anyone can call themselves a Dem but their actions speak louder than words. If Dick Cheney were to come out and announce he was a dem we would immediately know the difference, but if a lower level participant were to join forces, it might not be so apparent. To me, actions speak louder than labels.

*I am not becoming an apologist for republicans but feel that healthy debate is good for the country. It's the one sided abuse of power and limitation of dialogue that is dangerous.
