7. Alabama is truly absurd ...

The number of minorities and poor (and poor minorities) in AL is staggering, and there are bona fide pockets of liberalism (or at least progressive populism) in AL.

Either the polling methods there are as screwed up as some of the historical voting practices (highly plausible) or the Democratic party is doing a really bad job of framing issues so that people can see and act upon their self-interests ... or both ... probably both.

Mostly unrelated ... some yahoo on the news broadcast by the channel that commissioned this poll said tonight that if he won the powerball, the first thing he'd do is going out and build some churches. Ya know, being charitable and all is great, but I could think of a lot better charitable things to do with a few hundred million dollars suddenly plopped into my lap than build a bunch of buildings that don't house or feed anyone.

It's gotta be the weather. Seventy degrees one day and seventeen the next just has to screw with your head.
