Cokie Roberts doesn't heart Katrina VandenHeuval
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 10:38 AM by FLDem5
Did anyone else see her shoot those daggers at Katrina (from The Nation) and she is poo-pooing what Katrina says.

Katrina is speaking about how the Cheney issue is a metaphor for how this adminstration operates, and this may be a tipping point for the press' blind support of the President - that they should be questioning issues more.

George Steph. supported Katrina's point, btw.

3. sorry - I went back and added the details.
I re-read it and realized it was a little vague (to say the least).

Fair and Balanced, eh?

When I was a kid we called that 2 to 1.

14. Katrina nailed them both to their chairs
And got in every important talking point of ours. Quick aside; doesn't George Will look like he no longer enjoys the corn cob shoved up his butt?

5. Years ago I liked Cokie
But like so many alleged pundits inside the beltway
  • she came to believe what she says carries weight
  • and she obviously was coopted by the money to be made maintaining the status quo

IMHO the same is happening to James Carville and Paul Begala. As long as they're not too far outside of the mainstream they can rake in the cash and still appear to be opposed to the system for which they so gladly whore themselves.

9. Cokie is drunk on koolaid and has been for years.
I'll never forget after 9/11 and she was on Letterman and she said, well, the president's aprroval numbers are at 83% (or whatever the number was). She said, "how about that?" and gestured to the audience to applaud, like egged them on and made them applaud. Showed her true colors. Today she looks like a maniac - too much Botox.

18. James Carville whores himself every day he
continues to stay married to Mary Matalin and every night he goes to bed with her.

7. Catfight! Hiss! MrrrrrrrrOWWWWWW!
Kat is giving Schoolmarm Cokie a good, tough time -- and Cokie's contemptuous treatment of Katrina VDH as some sort of inferior speaks volumes about Cokie's failure to make a cogent argument.

8. well put.
Katrina came off as more knowledgeable, yet likable. Cokie came off as threatened and disdainful.

11. Inside word from Columbia 's School of Journalism re Cokie
Back during the Clinton impeachment, when Cokie was frothing on air with absolute hatred and loathing of Bill Clinton for his involvement with an intern, the inside word form the world of journalism, via Columbia University's School of Journalism (and this is a graduate level program only, rated number one J School in the world) was that Cokie's husband was involved simultaneously with TWO young women in his employ and Cokie was displacing all her repressed hatred of him onto Bill Clinton.

15. huh?
I don't buy the transference theory of history-/cokie was mad at Bill as she is very prudish about fidelity in marriage-further Bill foolishly made it a national prime time issue when he pontificated that he did not have sex with Ms. Intern then proceeded to parse the meaning of sex and is-all th;is from a Rhodes Scholar-Bill is very fortunate with the competence of his enemies as they had him on one unambiguous impeachable offense which was probably a felony-can you guess it?

17. Not interested in guessing games
If you think Clinton was justifiably impeached, state your reasons. Don't be coy. It has little to do with this thread, however. You might want to start your own. I'm sure it would go over well.

19. Interesting. Cokie's husband used to be a big time reporter and was
always on PBS's McNeil-Lehrer report. Then something happened to him at end of Clinton's term when John Roberts was no longer a guest. I saw very few articles from him anymore and he's seemed to disappear.

Also about that time Cokie and John were dissed in the Media for taking so much money on the Lecture Circuit for talks they were giving. And that was about the time Roberts became less visible and Cokie, too...then she showed up on NPR and then onto ABC with Sam Donaldson when they ran that show that Stephanopoulis took over. Then Cokie disappeared for a couple of years from ABC and now she's back.

Probably lots of interesting "dirt swept under the carpet" with those two...and John Roberts must have done something so dreadful even the Media Whores cut him loose....so two affairs simultaneously might be what it was. Sheesh....the Media embedded with the Media and with the Government and Media embedded with the Corporatists who are embedded with the Government and around and around with nepotism, sex and payola...Not Good.

Katrina is much much much better looking than Cokie...who thinks that she's glamorous.

Husband Steve may be thinking the same thing...

as if she was explaining things to a child.

20. I became absolutely furious at the end of the segment when
Cokie and that creep Will were practically falling off their chairs laughing about a poll that showed Republicans were happier than Democrats. How the hell is anyone supposed to be happy with the state of this country? Thousands of people still missing in New Orleans - an entire segment of the country nearly wiped from the planet and all of a sudden forgotten; uninsured Americans increasing in number by the thousands each day; a foreign government with potential terrorist ties being handed our ports; old folks going nuts trying to get their medicine; soldiers dying in an unjust war; innocent civilians dying in an unjust war; our private communications being monitored by Big Brother as if this is cold war Russia; jobs going overseas; a huge trade deficit; tax breaks for the wealthy while food and health care for the poor is cut; college funding cut . . . I could go on and on and on. I hope, with every fiber of my being, that someday I wake up in America and truly feel "happy."
