Question about the Abu Graib photos that weren't initially released. |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 04:50 PM by TwoSparkles
I was wondering about something.
We've all seen the horrific set of pictures of Abu Graib torture that were released to the public--the human pyramids, the man in the hood with wires attached to him and the Lyndie England leash photos, etc.
We have another group of photographs that exist. Some of these were published within the past several days. However, most of these unreleased photos have not been disseminated--and have only been seen by select journalists (Sy Hersch) and members of Congress. People who have viewed these unreleased images describe scenes of rape, torture and images so graphic that faces are unrecognizable. The images that were recently released in the past several days, show torture and very sick practices that inflicted physical and psychological terror on prisoners--most of whom were innocent.
Both the newly released photos and the unseen photos document crimes. The photos are proof of murder, torture, physical abuse, war crimes and serious violations of international law.
So...My question is...why aren't the crimes committed in the newly released and unreleased photos being adjudicated?

The ACLU has a 1 1-2 year lawsuit with the DOD to release the remaining (Darby) photos & videos, and the DOD is doing a great job of tying it up in appeals.
Infuriating.

2. You mean the USA, or administration, or particular soldiers/etc? |

"Because we are at war with the bad guys who attacked us first" is how the reasoning goes. I think this is combined with Mr.bush not signing the war crimes thing (sorry, memory lapse of term). The only soldier guy I saw in the new pictures has been prosecuted (or whatever it is called, dang my word memory).
Edited to add, not only are these crimes horrific and directly hurt a lot of Iraqis, the fallout will continue to hurt you, me, my children, etc for a long long time. No easy answers except those that are in control are in control of it all. War is Peace, etc

3. Supposedly, while all the photos/videos were not released, they were |

still all used in the trials. That would mean those who were tried did get tried for crimes in the the recently released pictures as well.
Supposedly. <--- note the word supposedly.
I saw new faces in the recently released batch of photos and don't recall any of them being part of the Abu Ghraib trials. So, who are these troops? What are their names? And did they get tried? I don't know.
And, of course, command has still yet to be punished and neither has the civilian "leadership" (Rummy/Bush etc) Until the Bush Regime is tried for Abu Ghraib (and all the other torture chambers), justice won't be done.
