Arianna: The Mary Matalin Horror Show
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/arianna-huffington/russert-watch-the-mary-m_b_15990.html

As it happens, I wasn't sure I had entirely woken up today. Indeed, I felt locked in a horrible nightmare -- because today's installment was a true horror show.

If you tuned in, you already know what I'm talking about: Mary Matalin.

Oh my God.

(snip)

Then there was Matalin's claim that the reason the local authorities were turned away from interviewing Cheney was because of "national security" considerations. Really? The Secret Service was worried that the sheriff's deputy interviewing Cheney would harm our national security?

(end snip)

3. Because our national security rests on good news for Bushco.
It's all about perceptions. As long as the public has confidence and supports our leadership, it will be successful. But lack of confidence means failure.

It's really convenient that national security and the political interests of the current admin are one and the same.

WTF? Why was he apologizing for doing his job?

That blew me away...to have him apologizing for doing something that was right?

Wow...they really must be getting on to threatening people because that came way out of left field....

7. Wolcott did pretty well...
... today on this:

I only caught the bitter end of Meet the Press so I'm not sure what provoked Mary Matalin's pout-fest (I'm sure Arianna will issue a full forensics report later), but she made quite a petulant spectacle of herself, shaking her head from side to side in silent, lemon-puss disagreement whenever Maureen Dowd and David Gregory made mildly critical comments about Shotgun Cheney. (Another prominent deployer of The Disapproving Headshake is sister conservative Kate O'Beirne, who wields it to upstage other panelists and ensure herself additional face-time: after her reaction shot, the host invariably calls on her next to vocalize her mute dissent. "Kate, I noticed you nodding your head..."--as if anyone could not notice!) Even without the immature pouting and pissy expression, Matalin would have been a car wreck in repose: With a bad haircut topping a mistaken facelift and a ghastly floral pin that looked like spray-painted aluminum, she looked like the Beltway's Madwoman of Chaillot. Maybe defending the {in}defensible is getting to her, and the acid reflux has gone to her brain.

Of course, read all his posts today:

http://jameswolcott.com/

... if only for his reference to a particularly nasty bunch as "little gangrene footballs." :spray:

8. I was thinking Cruelea DeVille..but this explains it
"And then there was the black Asian pajama top to match the black eye makeup and the scarlet red nails to match the scarlet red lips. It was impossible to watch her without thinking of Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty. And then there was her manner, which was so incredibly nasty that it was hard to focus on her ludicrous talking points."

55. Sadly, for you and me and so many others here, politics
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 09:16 PM by RazzleDazzle
is serious business. It's about our lives, and the quality thereof, and for people we care about including people we've never met, like the poor and handicapped and others disadvantaged in life. For people like Carville, Matalin and most people in Washington, politics is just politics, a power game and that's all. Their values aren't about the ideology at all. I learned that about Carville when he went to VZ to help out Chavez's opponents.

I'd always thought that they don't let kids go onto grown-up talk shows, but she proved me wrong. From the melodramatic head shaking to accusing Gregory of 'living in a parallel universe', she's a shoe in for the Saturday morning cartoon circuit - cause she's just that f*cking funny.

Man, thats extreme. Matlin has gone really far fringe right. I mean she sounds more extreme than hannity or rush with her outrageous claims.

Thats the face of the GOP today. Thats who they sent. Angry, shrill extremists who defy logic with laughable claims. Imagine her saying a press guy was going on a jihad because he had the nerve to ask questions about the Vice President of the US shooting a man...the nerve!

Wow. Im amazed at how far out there theyve become.

Plus bad karma of course.

Speaking of Carville and Cruella, I can't figure out how two people who allegedly have diametrically opposed value systems can stay married. But my hunch is that neither of them believes in much of anything, so maybe that's their secret!

39. I agree....
I watched her and I came away with the same feeling you did. She was "despicable", as you said.

She was very defensive and vitriolic. Way over the top.

Also--she seemed exhausted. Can you blame her? Her job is to defend the actions of Mr. "The Buckshot Stops Here." She knows that what he did was wrong. The WH was even pissed about it. Matalin knows he screwed up, but it's her job to defend him. He admitted that he drank "a beer". I'm sure she was real pleased with that one!

Besides, she looked like a fool. A real ice cube in heels. Maureen Dowd was so incredibly articulate and spot on. She was poised, concise and intelligent. Matalin looked like a ticked off old hag.

And that flower...holy perennials! I noticed on the video that her flower broach was actually bigger than her head. It was!

for keeping his cool during that one..."parallel universe" and "jihad?" Yes, maybe he does live in a far different universe than Bush, Cheney and their cronies....a universe grounded in reality. The woman is NOT stable! She was shrill and condescending, and Gregory was reasonable, unflappable and didn't fall for the sucker punch.

And would someone please tell her to move her lips when she speaks so she won't mumble?!!

Even though he himself admitted to having a beer for lunch and a cocktail after he shot his "good friend", whom he admitted to Hume, was actually an acqaintance. She gets paid thousands yet is one of the worst reps they could have chosen to spew their lies. The Bush Regime are blatant liars and this incident is a simple one that displays how screwed up the entire Regime is.

Scary Mary did a LOT to help our cause. Loved the little hissyfits --with lethal red fingernails* slicing the air --she looked like a cornered rabid cat...hanging around the death throes of the neocons.

They won't let Mary out of the tower again anytime soon...she'll stay close to the crypt with her pet vultures and weave her little tapestries of lies behind the scenes.

48. I saw Matalan on MTP. I thought she had zero credibility --
I had the impression should would have defended Cheney or any other republican regardless of the facts. Like she would have defended him if the shooting were premeditated.

She looked very sour and angry. When Maureen Down was speaking, Matalan looked like she was furious. (I forget exactly what Dowd was saying, but it was characteristically devastating.)
