Clinton weighs in on Cheney mishap
Administration's 'penchant for secrecy' fueled reaction, he says

WASHINGTON – Former President Bill Clinton said Sunday that the Bush administration's "enormous penchant for secrecy" sparked the strong reaction to Vice President Dick Cheney's shooting mishap.

"We have people quite often who are shot in quail incidents, so I didn't feel the need to get into the pile-on," Mr. Clinton said on ABC television's Good Morning America.

Mr. Cheney has been criticized for not disclosing the shooting on Feb. 11 of Texas lawyer Harry Whittington until the following day.

Mr. Cheney accidentally hit Mr. Whittington in the face, neck and chest with birdshot while both men were quail hunting on a Texas ranch.

"The White House should have said something about it sooner," Mr. Clinton said. "I think that it's gotten a little more light than it would have because the administration has an enormous penchant for secrecy, for not telling anybody anything about anything."

2. "Shot quite often" WTF???
He's parroting the Cheney apologists line. Oh yeah this happens every day. Nothin to get excited about. Move along folks nothing to see here. Did he see the statistics that say even in a state as large as Texas there were only something like 30 hunting accidents all last year. Not all of these were accidental shootings. I've about given up on Clinton to be anything besides an enabler for the * regime.

6. Colorado averages one or two FATAL accidents every year
Tons of non-fatal. I think the point is still valid: relatively speaking, people do get shot a lot.

What doesn't happen all the time is officials at the highest level of government working to cover it up. :)

5. I think he hit the nail right on the head.
Hey, really. The shooting was not THE BIG DEAL. THE BIG DEAL was the cover up and secrecy. Right On Bill. The Repukes would like to have it be believed that the hullabaloo is about the accident. They don't want anyone to concentrate on the cover up and secrecy bullshit.
