Question: Was Cheney on one of his famous "canned hunts?"
I haven't heard this definitively answered. Were these cage or captive raised birds? Clinton suggested they might have been. Does anyone know for sure?

1. Probably
However, canned hunts has a second meaning... Cans of beer for instance...

2. Speaking of captive animals...what about the dogs???
Quail are hunted with dogs. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE DOGS?

Not one word about dogs. Did Cheney shoot a hunting dog?

4. I really doubt it. Quail move in coveys....
think about a flight/flock of geese. You would not see them alone in the wild.
Same as quail.

The part of South Texas where the Armstong Ranch is located is totally awash with quail.

Pheasants, grouse, dove, etc can be staged, but the covey/flock birds are not.

Regardless, the success of the "hunters" was guaranteed. These quail, while not "canned" were certainly cultivated.

I have hunted there.

7. Really? I used to raise quails.

So does a good friend of mine. He ships them all over the US, including to Texas, to hunters, specifically to release and hunt on their property. Sends hundreds and sometimes thousands at a time to a single buyer.

Many species of quails (especially cortunix species) won't even sit on their eggs. That's why lots of hunters buy adults to hunt.

Here's an article on Cheney's style of hunting...he killed 70 farm-raised pheasants in a 2003 hunt--canned hunt, out of season, which is legal because it's a canned hunt on private property. Hmmm...deja vu?

8. He sure made it sound as if it were real hunting.
Miles of open space, spotters on horseback, the whole cha-cha. I don't believe it for a minute.

9. I recall the first account from Armstrong
"Pulled up in the car to where a covey of quail were located, got out and walked up to the brush then flushed them out".
Or something like that.

He could never stalk or sneak up on prey with his SS agents and a medical staff in tow.
Real "sportsman", huh?

I wouldnt doubt they used a remote control on the cages, or the guy that released them probably would have been shot.

10. Given his heart condition, I doubt he can walk all that far
That alone makes me think it was a canned hunt.
