4. Lots of Rs saying that the Dems have it right.
Good comment by one guy on this being an example of when outsourcing is not in our interest.

LOL, one lady saying that if * wants to outsource our ports, he should be willing to outsource his security detail.

2. Doesn't it suck
when you're on the same side as someone who says that we can't deal with people who are Muslims first, Arabs second, because they all want to kill us?

This whole deal is simply another example of the old nation-state dying. I know there's a bit of a backlash right now, but it won't stop it from moving forward.

6. It shows how successful * has been at screaming
"terra, terra" at every juncture. That older woman was genuinely fearful. There needs to be a rational national discussion the fact that there is no such thing as absolulte safety and that not every one is your enemey.

I don't think the nation state will die. People are tribal and parochial. That is where they feel secure.

10. Rational national?

I agree with you, it shows exactly how successful they've been with the propaganda. But that's how it always happens. That's how it will always happen. How much anger throughout history has been directed towards the wrong people? They'll say they're upset with Bush, but then they'll demonize Arabs/Muslims/whoever.

"I don't think the nation state will die"

Not completely. It'll stay around in enough of a context to keep people joining the military, supporting war, understanding that there are "national security" reasons for doing things, divide them, and keeping that public money coming in.

The lines on the maps are still there. But we live in a corporate world. While I don't like artificial borders either, it's for a completely different reason than the corporation. Mexicans die trying to cross the southern border. No corporation has ever died doing the same thing.

9. I don't think that Dubai wants to kill us but...
I don't trust their ability to vet every single employee and make sure radicals don't slip in. I don't think Bushco would care if a bomb exploded in a major city; he would be happy to declare martial law.
I love the fact that almost every caller hates this.

7. BBC: P&O confident of Dubai takeover
This was posted earlier in LBNs:

P&O confident of Dubai takeover

20 February 2006

P&O has said it is confident its takeover by Dubai Ports World will go ahead despite mounting opposition in the US.

Several US senators have warned they will oppose the $6.8bn (£3.9bn) deal over "national security concerns".

P&O controls six major ports in the US, including New York and Miami.

Meanwhile, a company based in the port of Miami has begun court action to prevent the takeover by DP World, which is backed by the Dubai government.

President Bush's administration has given its backing to the deal, which was agreed by the two firms last week, and has resisted calls from Congress to reconsider its stance.

The Homeland Security Department has said it was legally impossible under the committee's rules to reconsider its approval without evidence that DP World gave false information or withheld vital details from U.S. officials. The 30-day window for the committee to voice objections has ended, the department said.
