John Gibson: "I think most people don't want to see two guys get it on"
Most People Don't Want to See Two Guys Get It On
Tuesday, January 03, 2006
By John Gibson

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,180499,00.html

I've been getting no small amount of grief about the fact that I've been making fun of "Brokeback Mountain," the gay cowboy movie.

I've been making fun of it because it seems to me to be a movie in defiance of its audience. I don't think this is going to be a box office hit. It will make no money, at least in Hollywood terms.

I'm sure it will be a critical hit. Hollywood may in fact want to give every Oscar it can find to the first gay cowboy movie. But I just think most people do not want to go into a darkened room with a tub of popcorn and munch away watching two guys get it on. I just don't.

I had one prominent writer say he wouldn't come on my radio show because I made hate encouraging speech when I said I couldn't figure out which was going to be harder to watch: the guys smooching in "Brokeback" or Bob Baer getting his fingernails ripped out in "Syriana."

5. Well, violence, but more akin to sadism...
Extreme, sick violence.

I also think the fact that Gibson plays out a whole scenario of "going into a darkened room with a tub of popcorn and munching away" means only one thing: this boy protests too much.

7. And the turkeybutt called KO a liar
That, in and of itself, is reason enough for me not to like him or listen to what he says.

8. The box office is doing very, very well so far.
So, he's wrong on that one. Obviously, people ARE interested in seeing this movie.

Where to begin? This fuck is obviously a homophobe of the first order. To take what is a love story between two men and reduce the loving relationship they have to "two guys getting it on" is insulting and demeaning. That's the bullshit I've been hearing all my life as a gay man....we're solely reduced to whom we fuck. The idea of two men having a loving, sustaining relationship is simply not one the hatemongering John Gibsons of the world can grasp...or refuses to grasp.

I don't know that much about this John Gibson person but to compare two men showing affection for each other to an act of violence and be uncertain which is worse....this Gibson person has some sort of mental disorder. That's the only thing I can thing of.

9. Wonder if he's seen the movie?
Him and others almost always hammer stuff they think they don't like without doing any actual research, such as seeing the film. Me, I haven't seen it so I will not comment on it.

10. what a liar...
"I've been making fun of it because it seems to me to be a movie in defiance of its audience."

no, you fucking aren't. why would a right wing idealogue give a shit about movies that appeal to limited audiences? He doesn't go on and on about tender films about Iranian colostomy bag merchants and their love of macrame - he just can't get past the gay cowboy stuff, so he goes on and on about it.

and where did this "first gay cowboy movie" thing come from anyway? Just a convenient hook to sell it? Warhol made "Lonesome Cowboys" in, what, 1968 or something?

17. Gibson is looking for an "outrage niche"...
He wants to be Rush, he wants to be Hannity, he wants to be Coulter, he wants to be O'Reilly...

But he's a perennial second (or third) stringer. As much as he wants to climb that ladder, he can never find the steps. This goes back to July of last year and his first major step into outrage...the "Five in the Noggin" remarks about the British police shooting the suspected suicide bomber. Every time it's the same result...he spews his calculated outrage, people mutter "what a dick," and he looks for something that he hopes will linger in the public consciousness a little longer.

He wants to be Daryl Hall in a world that recognizes him as John Oates. That must sting.

14. John Gibson: "I think most people don't want to see two guys get it on"
I noted w/interest that psychopath Gibson didn't say "two gays" or "two people of the same sex".

So ... Gibson is admitting that most people want to see two females "getting it on"?

19. This is a just a love story
Like the vast majority of films it involves a couple but that doesn't make it pornographic. This is about two men "getting it on" no more than Titanic is about Leo and Kate steaming up the ship. I could understand him not wanting to watch this if this was porn and he was only watching it to get aroused. I could even understand him not wanting to watch it because he isn't into love stories or westerns but anybody who is uncomfortable watching two men love each other is a homophobe.

20. I would guess that several movie reviewers are gay....
How many times have you read--"Ugh, the movie shows a man & a woman getting it on. Nope, I just can't review it fairly." None. They critique the script, directing & performances--leaving out references to their personal lives.

21. I Think Most People Don't Want To See You, John
Look at your ratings, Johnny. One out of every 240 televisions in use at the time your show is on, watch you. The other 239 are watching something else. That definitely meets the definition of "most".
