Kansas City Star: Inadvertent reprint

Corrections: Inadvertent reprint
http://www.kansascity.com/mld/kansascity/news/local/13914695.htm?source=rss&channel=kansascity_local
A Feb. 19 article said Sen. Kit Bond of Missouri was taking the lead in attacking Joseph Wilson, a critic of President Bush, about a trip Wilson took to Niger to investigate claims Iraq was buying uranium there before the Iraq war. The article was a copy of an article that first ran July 25, 2004, and was inadvertently placed again in the newspaper.

___
The article was printed on Page A6 on Sunday, February 19.

Bond takes lead in attacking Bush critic Joseph Wilson
MATT STEARNS

http://nl.newsbank.com/nl-search/we/Archives?p_action=doc&p_docid=10FE71CC22871898&p_docnum=3

Last week, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence released its report on prewar intelligence. The unanimous report was highly critical of the CIA and other U.S. intelligence agencies. But it also disputed Wilson's assertion that Iraq had not tried to buy uranium from Niger.

Several Republicans on the Intelligence Committee, including Bond, wrote an addendum to the report even more critical of Wilson, saying that Wilson exaggerated what he actually knew and that it was likely that Wilson's CIA agent wife had recommended Wilson for the job, contrary to Wilson's statements.

And now Bond, known chiefly in the Senate as an inside player adept at ferreting out vast sums of federal dollars to send home, has taken a rare turn in the wider public eye in the last week as the leading Republican trying to debunk the debunker.

He has made multiple speeches on the Senate floor decrying Wilson. His communications office has churned out press releases. He appeared on the nationally televised PBS show "Newshour," where he debated Wilson one on one. He has distributed talking points to his Senate colleagues and reveled in their approval of what he's doing.

How in the hell does a paper "inadvertently reprint" 19-month-old material?

This makes me furious!

2. "Inadvertently"???
Time for some LTTEs. This is more than just an inadvertent reprint. Damn. The Star is usually more reliable than this.

Kicked and recommended.

You should post this on the MO and KS boards too. I'll put it on the DFA email group.

9. I don't think there was one.
More likely, the point was to give Bond another boost while smearing Wilson again. I don't trust that "newspaper."

12. I suppose it couldn't hurt.
A letter to the editor might also be in order.

14. But the reprint was a "news" story.
How often does an opinion piece get reprinted?

15. I know you are right
But we do have several allies on that editorial board. Duiguid for one. And my sister is very good friends with another one - he's as liberal as they come. I had a great conversation with him at my nephew's wedding. McGuff (who just died) was a decent man too and very fair. He and my dad went way back.

4. I wish they'd inadvertently reprint some other stories....
maybe a few scaremongering stories from before the Iraq War, and a few additional ones that would point out just how much the administration has lied to us. (But then I dream of the shit someday hitting the fan...)
