Republicans: "Three Strikes and You're Out!!"
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 03:35 PM by maxrandb
To borrow a phrase from our national pastime, "it's one-two-three strikes you're out" for the Republican Party.

In the past century, there have been three times that the Republican Party controlled all branches of government. Let's do a little history lesson.

Result 1 of total Republican rule: Herbert Hoover, the Great Depression and the foreign policy missteps that led to World War II.

Result 2 of total Republican rule: Reagan. Massive deficits as far as the eye can see. 252 Marines slaughtered in Beirut, and America running with it's tail between it's legs. The Savings and Loan crisis, and the foreign policy blunders that created Osama Bin Laden, and gave Saddam a free hand in the Middle East.

Result 3 of total Republican rule: Do I really need to get into it?? The largest most devastating terrorist attacks on innocent Americans in our 200+ year history. Deficits as far as the eye can see. Widening gap between the rich and the middle class/poor. Death of over 2200 American troops in a ill-conceived and unnecessary war. Unchecked power to spy on the American people. "Free Speech Zones". Fear, record energy prices, government inaction and ineptitude on a massive scale, and the selling of our laws to the highest bidder (see Jack Abrahamhoff.)

For the past century, Republicans have bitched that "government can't work"...Then they get elected to prove it!!

Three strikes and you're out. They need to be sent back to the fringes of our political discourse PERMANENTLY
I know they are used to writing their own rules, but they don't deserve another chance to hold the keys of the greatest country the world has ever known.

3. I also don't kow that your characterization of the Reagan Years
Is widely accepted as what really happenned. Rather he's more or less lionized by many.

You might be better off going with Hoover, Nixon and Bush.

When the Germans Bombed Pearl Harbor???

I know I was a bit over the top and emotional, but like Thomas Edison said;

"There are no rules here...We're trying to accomplish something!!!"

7. I remember Reagan complaining in his speeches that if
Congress hadn't blocked him on this bill or that bill he could have changed things. The Democrats had enough clout to fight him on his tax cuts and reforms unlike the rubber stamp Congress Bush has today.

11. Widely accepted by morons.
Reagan fucked this country hard.

Spread the truth. Don't ever accept the lies and propaganda of the corporate elite.

17. I think they had the senate for a while...
But I think the house was solidly democratic through Reagan years.

The Reagan Years kinda sucked, but they were fantastic in comparison to the Bush years.

Reagan was both more honest and more intelligent than Bush, although he had a certain tunnel vision where it came to foreign policy and economic issues. But even Reagan raised taxes when the deficit became a problem. Bush would rather spend and spend and sell off our kids' futures to the Chinese.

2. Already passed three strikes - Nixon
As long as they keep hitting foul balls, they figure they can stay at bat forever.

13. They're a noisy minority now.
Whenever I hear a rightwing gasbag on the radio or TV, or when it looks like we'll have a Republican-controlled government forever, I think "thirty-nine percent". That's all the support Bush has in the latest CNN poll, and he's been trying hard to rise above 40% for about six months now. We have a wonderful election coming up in November, and no matter how hard this noisy minority opines about the "lack of purpose" in the Democratic party, we're going to kick ass big time this time around. Just notice that, the more worried Republicans get, the louder they yell. They're scared. I'm happy. Thirty-nine percent.

9. I Thought the Repukes had the Senate
or the house for part of his first term.

In any event...look at the track record.

They gave us Hoover, Nixon and both Bush's

Compare that to

Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy and Clinton

Also, There aren't enough people left alive that remember what it was that led to, and the devastation of the Great Depression. If there were, you'd have millions of 80 and 90 year olds marching on the White House and saying; "we've seen this before".

12. That's what I meant by this
"government inaction and ineptitude on a massive scale"

You know, either our government didn't give a shit about the people of New Orleans, or they were incompetent. Neither is a good talking point for the Repukes.

Say it loud, and say it over and over again; "Republicans bitch that government can't work...then they get elected to PROVE IT!"

14. The Democrats held the House under Reagan
And the Senate for two of the eight years.

You still have three examples in this century, though. The Republicans held the Presidency and Congress in the 50s. They gave us McCarthyism.

They are really great at ruining peoples lives, aren't they?

I'll say it again; "Republicans bitch that government can't work...then they get elected and PROVE IT!"

They've achieved power because they control the media, and they have perfected the art of appealing to the basest of human instincts.

They're nothing by fear mongers.

They're nothing but scared little pu$$ies.

Here are just some of the things that have them shaking in their boots and pissing their pants.

- Unions
- Liberals
- Bearded Men
- Gays and lesbians
- Education
- Strong woman
- Sex education
- Hollywood
- Sex
- Strong women
- Compassionate men
- Secularist
- Any Christian that has actually read the New Testament

16. You Missed the Joe McCarthy Period
The Repubs controlled it all for a little while in the early 50s.

You may have heard of the late unlamented Senator Joseph McCarthy,
who was most noted for accusing practically everyone of being a Communist.
As chairman of the powerful House Un-American Activities Committee, his
accusations ruined a lot of innocent people's lives.
