Have we ever had a President before with such close ties to foreign... |

...powers with dubious intentions toward the US? I can't recall any, but perhaps someone on DU with deeper knowledge of history can provide an example.
Bush's ties to Saudi Arabia and other ME interests are downright scary when viewed in the context of terrorism and our military actions.

4. Before the 'global economy'... |

...there really weren't many reasons for a US President to be so closely tied to foreign interests. There wasn't really any point.
IIRC, Poppy Bush was closely tied (both personally and financially) to both China and Saudi Arabia (and the Emirates), and he's about the only other one I can think of.
Then again, maybe it's just the Bushes that do this? Can't remember any other President being accused of it before (other than dumb things, like accusations of JFK doing the Pope's bidding because he was a Catholic, etc...)

* acted like he didn't know a thing about any foreign countries, like he was fresh out of the cabbage patch, and it turns out he's more entrenched with foreign countries than any other president. talk about being disingenuous. can't trust a word out of the mouth with that fake texas accent.
