Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 05:17 PM by xiamiam
In yesterdays tv rounds, there were only four persons to my knowledge speaking in favor of the ports going to DPW..Condi, Chertoff, Snow, and Lieberman(not quite but not opposed either)...and remember that secret committee made up of 12 members under the department of the treasury...well, in this article

http://www.bridgedeck.org/mmp_news_archive/2002/mmp_new

ok..i got this from another thread and need to edit coz the link wont work...there is another thread on the carlyle group which contains this info

MM&P-CONTRACTED CSX LINES PURCHASED BY THE CARLYLE GROUP
MM&P-contracted CSX Lines, the US-flag container shipping subsidiary of CSX Inc., will be sold to the Carlyle Group, a private equity firm based in Washington, DC for $300M. The acquisition will give Carlyle control over the nation's largest Jones Act container fleet and will add to the company's growing transportation portfolio.

CSX Lines will be renamed Horizon Lines LLC, when the transaction is completed early next year pending regulatory approval. CSX Lines is the nation's largest ocean transport company, with 17 US-flag vessels and 22,000 containers, providing ocean transportation and logistics services to and from the US, Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and Puerto Rico.

Carlyle's other maritime holdings include Seabulk International, formerly Hvide Marine, which owns and operates 10 Jones Act tankers in the Gulf of Mexico. Through United Defense Industries, Carlyle controls United States Marine Repair, the nation's largest non-nuclear ship repair and conversion company.

Carlyle Group is a politically-connected global private equity firm with reportedly more than $13.9 billion under management. The company's directors and advisors include former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister John Major, and former Secretary of State James Baker. IBM Chairman Louis Gerstner is slated to become chairman of Carlyle on January 7, replacing former Secretary of Defense Frank Carlucci.

John Snow, the CEO of CSX, was appointed Treasury Secretary by the younger President Bush last week. The current CSX Lines President and Chief Executive Charles Raymond and his management team will remain in place. Raymond will also serve as chairman of the board.
which explains one of the ways the Carlyle group will benefit , there is also this description of Mr. Snow..
John Snow, the CEO of CSX, was appointed Treasury Secretary by the younger President Bush last week. The current CSX Lines President and Chief Executive Charles Raymond and his management team will remain in place. Raymond will also serve as chairman of the board.

how could it possible be any more obvious? my my my...

1. Is this the same CSX as the railroad?
I ready the article, and they're talking about an ocean freight line named CSX. I remember when Snow was named Sec. I though the Co. he worked for was the railroad.

They have ocean freight and railroad subsidiaries. Dubai Ports World bought at least the ocean freight part in 2004.

Dubai Ports International (“DPI”), one of the world’s leading port operators, announces that it has signed a definitive agreement with CSX Corporation (NYSE: CSX) to acquire the international terminal business conducted by CSX World Terminals (“the Company”) and other related interests for a cash consideration of US$1.15 billion, subject to customary adjustments.

15. Nothing is Illegal anymore in this damned dictatorship, unless you make
less than a million bucks a year. Then all laws apply double. If you make less than twenty grand a year, you don't even have to break the law to get punished!

Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 07:05 PM by xiamiam
confirmed by senate in late january, and started as sec of treasury on feb 3..carlyle is buying csx ..dpw is gaining control of the operations of our ports.port operations sale approved mid january by a secret panel under the department of the treasury...i dont know why but i think this appointmnet had something to do with the behind the scenes negotiations involving both of these deals..something as ceo of csx and maybe even a secret member of a secret panel (im guessing here) he would be very involved with..and then voila..hes secretry of the treasury right after the secet panel approves the secret little deal...

20. In some ways it's worse, but in
others, I think he may have cleansed himself from the conflict of interest, although I'm not sure if 3 years is enough. Maybe some of the people who work for fed. agencies know the rule on this. In real life, obviously, we would still think it is a conflict.

when the sale goes through? The company's directors and advisors include former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister John Major, and former Secretary of State James Baker.
