Chavez Warns Rice, 'Don't Mess With Me, Girl'
Venezuelan Leader Responds to U.S. 'Inoculation' Plan

CARACAS, Venezuela (Feb. 19) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday warned Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice not to "mess with" him days after Rice described Venezuela as a menace to regional democracy in the midst of tense diplomatic relations between the two countries.

5. Now you had better be careful
or your ass is going to be in the same trouble I was in on this board last week. You (and I) apparently are just not PC enough to satisfy some folks around here.

Personally, to quote de ho, I really like the way you "impugn her integrity."

6. Chavez
I lived in Venezuela 12 years, wrote my theses on Venezuelan labor movement, spent summers researching the new situation and interviewing people from all sides. Yet, though I love the education program, the health program, the food subsedy program, the cultural program, etc. the fact that Condolezza Rice is concerned about Chavez is all the proof I need that he must be doing something right!
Some people have done so much evil and lied such big lies that anything they are against is something I can be for!

8. Welcome to DU mula!
Thanks for telling us how it really is in Venezuela! The RW media likes to paint it as being a socialist hellhole with a dangerous dictator in charge.

9. some dictator
They want to make Americans believe that Chavez has attacked freedom of speech...well you can pick up any of the dozens of Anti-Chavez papers on any street corner and see a front page article encouraging readers to pick up their guns and bring them to such and such corner where Chavez will appear and to assasinate him. They not only print such articles but sign them and not one of the papers are confiscated, nobody is arrested, no papers are closed!
I was there last summer and will return again this July and August.
Immagine a country that is pushing participatory democracy, free education from pre-school to College (not only free but students are often paid to study and all recieve free breakfast, lunch and a snack in the afternoon.)
This dictator has had 8 elections in 6 years and Venezuela is the only country who has had a referendum on whether to keep a president or replace him. Only 2 other countries have this provision in their constitution but the other two never used it. By the way, this provision was set in place by the Chavez Constitutional Convention... Some dictator!

11. welcome, mula!
you're about to be whelmed (hopefully not overwhelmed) by the DU anti-commie brigade, so you may find this useful, in addition to your own experiences there

I've never known of anybody from Trieste, btw....what's your native language?

17. You're a breath of fresh air. Most DU'ers who have (claim?) VZ connections
seem to have their realm of experience limited to the experiences of their girlfriend's wealthy relatives up in the penthouse of a Caracas apartment building.

To have someone who researched the LABOR MOVEMENT for TWELVE YEARS, who has been down on the street corner and has read the papers!

THANK YOU FOR CHOSING TO POST AT DU!!!!

12. I hate to nitpick but the "girl" part throws everything off
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 07:46 PM by Truth Hurts A Lot
Is Chavez sexist or is he attempting to use some sort of ethnic humor?

on edit: just read some articles about Chavez and his rhetoric and it appears he uses a lot of colorful language for both Bush and Rice. Nevermind.

20. As Guy mentioned yesterday, Spanish has a lot of words...
that don't translate well into English. Most words in Spanish, have a gender component to them. The word used here is slang for Women, not necessarily derogatory, more like saying "Dudette" here in this country, though that isn't necessarily a perfect word to use either. It would have been a little more insulting to call her by the male form of the same word, don't you think? The most I can say that Chavez is guilty of is "speaking off the cuff" but he is quite famous for that, similar to "plain talking" Bush, but at least Chavez is intelligible in his native language! :) By the way, thanks for the props 1932!

22. I know, that had to have been insulting...
I mean, c'mon, the ignorance some showed toward you was pathetic. The only reason why I even understand what you were talking about at all is because of my 3 years of French, I know quite a bit about the use of gender in that language and Spanish is similar. Though I don't claim to be an expert.
