I mean they could give at least 1 day a month to troop deaths don'tcha think?

I'm not taking grief away from this mining thing but over 2,000 troops are dead and you'd hardly notice.

:grr:

4. Mostly I think because we know they are dead
in a mining case, they need to be rescued and there is uncertainty about the outcome.

Also, you expect death in war. We have come to think of mining as safe. Which obviously it isn't always.

5. Why doesn't the MSM cover the Sudanese genocide as much as
troop deaths? At least troop deaths get a mention every once in a while.

There are plenty of things the American corporate media never touches but get mentioned on European and Canadian TV news quite regularly; human trafficking, widespread famine in africa etc.

6. When They Do They Get Bitchslapped
Look at the bullshit Mike Lukovich took for his recent cartoon that had the name of all the dead formed into the question "why?". Or even better, look at all the crap that flew when Nightline just showed the pictures and read the names a year ago...it'd take three times as long for them to do it now. Sinclair had its stations pre-empt the broadcast and the freepers went apeshit. Corporate media doesn't have the spine to stand up to that kind of pressure.

I think there's an "Iraq fatigue" that's settled in...people don't want to see or hear about it. They know it's going badly and gonna get worse, but don't put it in my face. Sadly, this war still hasn't come home to enough people...they haven't had to feel it directly, so its easy to ignore...and that serves both this regime and the corporate media just fine.

Also, the corporate media is stuck in a box in how it covers Iraq now. It's limited in what it can cover due to the poor security situation there and then catches flack for "not reporting all the good things going on". They damned on either side...it's better to focus on stories about Angeline Jolie's baby or "wars on xmas".

Cheers...

8. you have an excellent point. Still when i heard those miners were alive
i felt so relived for those families and when i got up this morning i found out they were wrong, how fucking horrible. Why couldn't they wait until they were all checked before they said anything?

12. Thousands in New Orleans died and got way less coverage
And of course, the troops get none. Move along, nothing to see here.
