CNN & MSNBC Fight over exclusive interviews with lumps of coal
Cable news is going to extremes NOT to cover Plamegate, Spygate, AbrahamoffGate and dozens of other scandals related to BushCo. The saturation coverage of the mining disaster is entering the realm of the bizarre. Can these networks get any more obvious in their selective coverage of news? I would not be surprised if they did indeed start interviewing piles of coal to ask why they hate America.

3. Well, this thing has an end
They could have stretched it out forever had survivors been found in numbers--the family interviews, the interviews with the guys (how did you manage to stay alive?), the personal interest interviews, and so on. But now, it will end with a few 'massive recrimination' pieces, and funerals. There's that one kid on a ventilator, but how long can they beat that drum?

I note that Abramoff's coverage is pretty well focused on his exit from the courthouse. They like to mention his outfit, which looks like both the coat AND hat have a kevlar lining to me (can you blame him?).

4. I never even thought of that
You are probably right. That explains the weird outfit he was wearing.

6. He seemed to be walking a bit more ponderously than he usually does
And sure, the weight of the world is on his shoulders, but it seemed more than that to me. I just wondered if he consulted the same guy who makes ballistic protection clothes for Hugo Chavez--some very stylin' threads, too: http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2005/09/22/bulletproof/index_np.html

unless kevlar comes in new, sensuous breast-shaped plates.

8. Coverage of unsafe work conditions helps the cause.
It ultimately puts unions in a positive light in the media for a change and puts energy suppliers on the spot. I think it's a good thing, even if the media is using it to avoid covering other things that play well for Democrats.

It's getting to the point that so much bad is happening that they can't focus on missing white women anymore.

9. It gets them ratings.
Look at how much discussion there's been of it on DU today. Human drama will always win out over investigative journalism in the US media. It's cheap to manufacture, and pulls in the rubes.

11. LOL ! That is PERFECT!
Probably the best example so far this year of corporate media's surreal fantasy factory news.
