Is there a Judy Miller/Rove/Abramoff/Norquist connection?
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 09:44 AM by deminks
I have been thinking about this the last two days. I have never been able to dismiss easily the "other little issue" that Judy Miller had with Patrick Fitzgerald. The little issue that no one ever talks about. The little issue that involved Miller and another Times reporter tipping off islamic fund raising groups of an impending FBI raid shortly after 9/11.

It can be speculated that this is what Judy made Fitzy promise not to ask her about when she decided to get out of jail, although the courts had already decided that the reporters did not have to give the prosecutor their phone records - Fitz wanted to know who they talked to at the charities, but I suspect he wanted to know who tipped them off.

The "who tipped them off" question has not been fully addressed, that I can find. Now with revelations that Abramoff and Norquist may be involved not only in influence pedaling in the US but also with foreign funds, it brought this case to mind. We know the connections between Rove/Norquist/Abramoff/Susan Ralston. Were they involved in protecting these charities who had given them money? or worse?

Please let me know if this has already been addressed.

1. I think it is just a type. They like to be around power
Even if they really have none it is like an ego thing. It is like one step up from name dropping.

3. Yeah.
I don't know that there's any super secret conspiracy here; just that they are all corrupt thugs and so like to work together.

2. Rove-Norquist-Abramoff undoubtedly
I don't know about Miller. She clearly has some sort of connection to the WH, but her interests seem more linked to the Neocon agenda.

4. One thing:
"It can be speculated that this is what Judy made Fitzy promise not to ask her...." There is no reason to think this is true. Any question about that line of questioning was decided in court hearings from that case. That door was closed. More, it was not part of the Plame grand jury investigation, and could not have been asked even if another court had not dealt with it.

What Fitzgerald had agreed not to question Miller about was discussions with sources about Plame, other than Libby. Only Libby had given her "permission" to testify about their discussion on the Plame leak.

5. Why Did He Go For That?
Let her call the shots like that? Was the thinking that the domino effect of taking down one at a time would bring that info out? I think she's in it up to her eyeballs. Will she have to testify. Could Libby's lawyer shred her in defense of his client?

6. Because he
was going for the information he needed to wrap up the Libby indictment. It does not keep him from calling her again if the need arises.

7. You Mean That Smug Smile May Yet Leave Her Face?
And that the appalling interviews she has given to Nighline etc., in her defense, may all go by the wayside?
