Bush to dead soldier's mom: "How do you know his life would have been good

VIDEO INTERVEIW WITH Dolores Kesterson

By Jeff Norman
August 11, 2005
Cindy Sheehan is not the only Gold Star mom who felt disrespected after a visit with George W. Bush. Dolores Kesterson, whose son Erik was killed in Iraq in November of 2003, was among several military families who last year were invited to meet with Bush as a group. Each family was allotted ten minutes with the president, but because she is divorced from her husband, Dolores asked to speak with Bush one-on-one.

Dolores reports exclusively for U.S. Tour of Duty that she waited alone in a small partitioned area, wondering if her request would be granted, before a Bush aide suddenly announced, "The president will now see you." As the commander in chief strode briskly toward her, it seemed to Dolores that he was trying to intimidate her. "He came marching in and got right in my face...eyeball to eyeball, and said, 'I'm George Bush, the president of the United States, and I understand you have something to say to me in private.'"

Dolores tried to give Bush a sense of what type of person Erik had been. She described her son as a "comedian" whose favorite saying was, "Life is good." The president replied, "How do you know his life would have been good?"

Dolores was shocked by Bush's eagerness to question the value of her son's life. She told the president, "Nobody wants to die."

Before he concluded their meeting, Bush proclaimed to Dolores, "We won't know in our lifetime whether or not Iraq was a success."

What a guy.
Notice how every one of these people report he marches up to them and announces he is "George Bush, President of the United States" as if they may not be aware of that. What in the hell is up with that?

14. It's part of his intimidation play.
He wants to minimize the time he spends with these folks. I think he also does not like "special requests" to see him alone.

Fans of DOH know the scary similarity of Roscoe and *. Roscoe combined arrogance and incompetence. Add evil to that mix and you have *.

That's what he's saying to them. He's hoping he can intimidate them from the beginning so they don't say something negative about the war.

18. we knew before he was selected that his admin would be a failure
I knew he would be a failure the minute I heard he was being considered for the republican candidate, way back in the late 90s. It was an easy deduction: everything he's attempted in life, he's failed at. Why would governance of the U.S. be any different?

Failure failure failure. Failed failed failed.

Also re the "know in our lifetime" meme, this was being said about Cheney by the champion bush ho's at Newsweek about Cheney. They said he was "resolute" about knowing that the wisdom of his decisions would not be known for generations.

This is the new lie they are not only telling themselves, but the American public, too.

46. I think in Georgie's mind he was meant to die - God picked Georgie >
Georgie sent her son to war > Her son died in Georgie's war = God wanted Georgie to die, possibly because he was destined for a terrible life of strife and pain.

Therefore Georgie has benevolently spared her son from a life of misery by getting him killed.

47.  the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King
"I saw an orderly buildup of evil, an accumulation of inhumanities, each of which alone is sufficient to make men hide in shame. What was woeful, but true, was that my country was only talking peace but was bent on military victory. Inside the glove of peace was the clenched fist of war. I now stood naked with shame and guilt, as indeed every German should have when his government was using its military power to overwhelm other nations. Whether right or wrong, I had for too long allowed myself to be a silent onlooker. At best, I was a loud speaker but a quiet actor, while a charade was being performed." - the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King

48. It's hard to do
And it's really not fun to do. But it's the little comments like that that really reveal the psychology of the man. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in this way - I don't believe he was intentionally trying to hurt her feelings. He just wasn't thinking about her at all. Bush was just rationalizing this man's death to himself - he'd "have a bad life" anyway, history will justify the war, etc. I think Bush does have distant twinges of doubt sometimes - that's why he's so eager to shut up anyone who doubts him. He does not want to be confronted w/reality, or made to feel guilty. It's all about HIM, really.

... would have. It's his fundamentalist wacko way of rationalizing what he has done. She also didn't say those were his exact words, but that he said something to that effect (which I'm sure he did).

Yes, it's her word against his, and he knew that. He knew he was seeing her in private, at her request, and plainly came in to intimidate her and challenge her (because he knew she would be challenging him).

I saw the video, and I believe the mom. And I already know from experience that nothing Bush says can be trusted.

own skin wouldn't announce who the hell he is - particularly when it's already evident. Can you imagine, "I'm Brad Pitt, movie star" "I'm Kofi Annan, UN Secretary General" "I'm Vladimer Putin, Russian President"?

It would be laughable if it wasn't so pitiful that the boob is so insecure he has to trot out his title. I would have been so tempted to come back with , "I was expecting to see the President. Where's Cheney?"

As for the way he treated Ms. Kesterson, the word "shameful" comes to mind, except that the bastard has no shame.

58. TIME OUT! Kesterson? Kesterson? Edit: Ding! Found it!
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 12:03 PM by Darkhawk32
Wasn't she on TV once as someone that the news agencies put up to attack Sheehan, but it backfired on them?

Am I remembering the correct person?

Edit:

After a search, yes I was correct, she smacked down O'Reilly hard when she was questioned...

this war and ask him how good his life is and if the war is now
a success.

He is either unable to empathize or is subconsciously feeling extremely guilty. I am inclined to go for the first explanation.

73. This is the mom who was left out of the ads being run in Minnesota
There's some horrible prowar ads being run in Minnesota right now. One uses the families of dead soldiers to justify it. In Erik Kesterson's case, it's his dad on his stepmom - though the ad never tells you its the stepmom and, of course, never tells you what his mother thinks of all this.

77. GOD - I hate that fucking PIG!
I could spit nails right now. I can barely get my mind around that level of selfishness, hatefulness and nerve. My goal in life is to live long enough to see that bastard suffer the way he has made others suffer. :grr:

83. This is indeed a sad event...
... The shocker of course, is that through clandestine means, this man assumed the duties of the President of our country.

This man, who has continuously proved what a self-serving, sociopathic, psychopath that he is.

He cares not for the young men and women of this country, who would through their patriotism and heroism would gladly lay down their lives for the protection of this land.

His love is for the almighty dollar. The gold that lines the pockets of his corporate cronies and his political toadies. If one is christian, then you will seem to think that satisfaction may come when he has to stand before his maker on judgment day. I am not a christian, so I do not have that luxury.

I think that someone close to him should stand in harm's way, and if the unthinkable should happen, then perhaps someone might ask him the question... "How do you know your daughter's life would have been good?"
