News Conference - Ohio terrorists arrested this weekend...starting CNN
Soon, they said. Taking bets now... will it be a real story, a semi real story, or a complete fabrication?

Ohio Men Indicted On Plans To Attack U.S. Troops In Iraq

POSTED: 11:44 am EST February 21, 2006
UPDATED: 11:59 am EST February 21, 2006

CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted three Ohio men on charges of planning attacks on U.S. military personnel in Iraq, according to an indictment.

The three men, who all lived in Toledo within the last year, were arrested over the weekend, said Assistant U.S. Attorney David Bauer in Toledo. The indictment was unsealed Monday.

They were to be arraigned in federal courts in Cleveland and Toledo on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspects recruited others to train for a violent holy war against the United States and its allies in Iraq, the indictment said. The group traveled together to a shooting range to practice shooting guns and studied how to make explosives, the indictment said.

20. They were just arrested this weekend...
so if I might correct that... the timing of the arrests is suspicious. I mean, were they trying to leave the country or something? arrested at the airport? I bet not.

11. Smell a rat. Fits a little too cleanly with the "fighting them there so...
... we don't have to fight them here" canard.

If they were already here, and training in weapons, and obviously willing to give up their lives... WHY wouldn't they plan on taking some action HERE? They're already HERE! Defenses are much weaker, and targets are much softer, once you are in the U.S.

If they are Muslim, they may very well have expressed dislike for the Iraq war, and they may very well have exercised their 2nd amendment rights at a shooting range. But have we arrested every loser who's stockpiling weapons and planning for war with the "mud people"?

I vote for "complete fabrication".

If they really wanted to do this why go half way around the world when there are troops right here (in large groups even)?

Does this make any sense?

Oh well glad they got them before they acted.

40. That was my feeling also ~ they are terrified we'll find out what they
were really up to ~

I guess if they were planning this for a year, the Domestic Spy program didn't work too well. If they'd stop spying on people ordering pizza and focus on REAL terorists, maybe they would have caught them long ago, assuming there's any truth to this, which I doubt.

Btw, have they caught the 23 escaped Cole terrorists yet?
Right on cue again! Bush is in trouble with the Port debacle and with Domestic spying ~ and we have another 'terror' story .... *yawn*

32. The one subject "downloaded information on how to make a bomb vest"
Is that illegal?
Can I be arrested because of websites I visit even if I don't want to blow something up?
Can I use the internet to learn how to make an atomic bomb even if I can't possibly gather the material required?
Is it legal to visit DU if people here discuss overthrow of the government through impeachment of the administration?

He's using this bust to tie terrorists here to Iraq and to justify the illegal wiretapping.

Gonzalas scares me more than Bin Ladin.

of Middle Easterners IIRC. Families claimed at the time that the men were completely set up..something about 'bombing a strip mall'...never heard another word about it.
Anyone remember this, Or have I finally gone insane?(ENTIRELY possible)

42. I'm from Toledo
I was outside running with my dogs at 5:30PM yesterday, when a black helicopter started circling my neighborhood. It was black with yellow writing, which I couldn't read. I waived at them after they circled over my house for the 5th time, then went in the house and called my Mom to ask her if anything was on the news. She said there wasn't.

My Mom called me at 12:30PM today and told me about the press briefing. I looked up the terrorist's names and one lived 2 miles from me and the other 4 miles from me. I couldn't find the address of the 3rd. The press conference said they were arrested over the weekend - I would still like to know what the black helicopter was doing.

46. This is all reminding me of Bullwinkle and the hat
Every time the administration needs to justify its sketchy programs, it reaches back into the hat to pull out a "rabbit." That it kept the critter there for some time just waiting to pull it out when they need it and that it really isn't a "rabbit" (see Padilla, the original accusations against him and what they ended up charging him with) gets ignored or brushed under the rug by the media. Or if it even gets raised, by that time they've already achieved their main purpose, in this case getting away with domestic spying and renewing the (un)Patriot Act.
