Franken--AAR: Widow's tax providing benefits for widows of soldiers

was done away with? Did I get this right? Nelson of Florida sponsored the bill that did it? Tell me I misunderstood this. These women have lost husbands and fathers for their children, and are left with way below poverty level income. Apparently, they get 2 streams of benefits--one from the VA and the other from DoD. DoD gets to take back all the monies from the VA they get.

1. you misunderstood

what was done away with was the DoD not paying what was due for every dollar the VA gave. They have a similar game going with disabilty and Veteran pay

3. Widows are fucked

If I die, my wife gets only a quarter of my disability pension. (And we're both veterans.)

She has to hope like hell that her SS and the remaining disability pension can keep her off the street.

It's been like this for years; it's not new, only worse under Bush & Co.

We could complain about it, but the bastards have slashed the time that veteran's groups can speak.
