I happened to catch a replay of a program I saw a few months ago on FSTV re: depleted uranium. It was a very distressing program to watch again at the very least, but I watched it again anyway.
I realize that depleted uranium in Iraq will never go away for billions of years and also, this same program with a man named Peter Aronson, was discussing that depleted uranium (DU) has also been released in Connecticut, another man on the panel mentioned Nevada, and other locations here in the USA.
"Uranium weapons, often called 'depleted' uranium (DU) weapons, are manufactured from radioactive waste materials produced during the nuclear fuel chain and the production of nuclear weapons. They cause widespread and long lasting radioactive contamination of the environment. These weapon systems are radiologically and chemically toxic.
Many people - innocent civilians especially children, military veterans, industry workers - have illnesses and medical problems, which may be due to their exposure to 'depleted' uranium. In areas such as southern Iraq, where uranium munitions were used by the US and the UK, there have been reports of increases in cancers, leukemia and birth defects.
At least 18 countries possess these weapons, the use of which is contrary to existing humanitarian law."Please sign the petition to ban depleted uranium immediately! This cannot wait! This is URGENT! URGENT! URGENT!
Every single person who has been in Iraq since the invasion began in 2003 has most likely been exposed, be it an Iraqi citizen or a soldier or news reporter. The ramifications (birth defects) of DU are horrendous!
DU causes cancer as well! They discussed this in depth on this program I happened to see and studies indicate that the levels of various types of cancer have escalated tremendously, like liver cancer - 11 fold since the Gulf War when DU was initially used some 15 years ago. Just now we are seeing the results. Perhaps this is why we are seeing so many people (and young people, like my sibling who died of cancer at the age of 41 (and no did not drink, smoke, etc. - was a goody two shoes so to speak the entire short life lived).
The program went on to discuss that depleted uranium is thousands of times worse when compared to other biological weapons that have been used, like Agent Orange or the mustard gasses used in WWI.
