Even with his own political base rising up against him on this issue, even with liberals and conservatives agreeing this is a huge mistake, even with Congress threatening to intervene, even with New York and Maryland threatening to take action on their own, Bush is steadfastly refusing to back down on this. This reminds me of Bush's dogged defense of his illegal wiretaps, vowing to keep doing them in the face of increasing opposition.
