Does Anyone Know The History of U.S. Port Foreign Ownership ?
I'm interested to know how many years, decades, or centuries, under which administrations ownership of United States ports and authority were given to over Corporations, Companies controlled/owned and controlled by Foreign Governments?

(And which governments they were, would be of interest too)

Links, sources etc would be welcomed. I did a brief google search but i didn't the results i was seeking - probably used the wrong search words.

3. Not ignoring you, this is my question too.
Why don't we know these things? How different is it that both the Chicago Skyway and the Indiana Toll Road are being bought and run by other countries. I see the benefit to the state to not have to maintain the roads but it makes me a little concerned that we are selling off our infrastructure at an alarming rate.

I wish someone would answer this post.

4. I can't find much

I can find history by individual ports. This article on Philadelphia's ports talks about the history of privatization, etc. Kind of interesting.
http://www.philaport.com/history.htm

Plus I can find info on the company that's selling to UAE's Ports World
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsular_and_Oriental_Steam_Navigation_Company

Also went through the US Dept Transportation Maritime website - but found NOTHING related to private ownership of port activities.

on edit: I suspect the privatizing started in earnest in the late 1950s with the advent of container shipping. Mass movement of cheap plastic crap seems to have been a rebirth for ports.

5. Example: Maersk, a Danish company, developed a terminal in Newark
that they built in 1975. http://www.maersk.com/historyTemplate.asp?nav=1&subnav=12&id=48&decade=0&count=34

This was sold, along with the adjoining terminal run by an American company, to P&O and a Dutch partner in 2000. http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/cgi/news/release?id=53345
