1. Thanks for posting.
I wasn't able to get any of the other links to it to work.

Nice to have Letterman call O'Reilly out.

The audience responses were interesting.

30. Maybe the audience included a few O'Lielly roadies/production assistants?
Republicans are so fond of an adoring crowd that they often bring one with them.

The audience reactions on last night's Letterman Show seemed weird. Too many were applauding O'Lielly. (Dave is famous for lampooning dubya. I don't think he draws right-wing crowds.)

It reminded me of the booing "audience" at the Oscars when Michael Moore won a few year back. One of the other Oscar nominees said that the booing was coming from the ushers. I wondered then if the ushers had been imported to the awards show the way that "rioters" had been imported to Florida in 2000.

Maybe some of these people were in Letterman's audience?

(The "Brooks Brothers" riot in Miami, Florida in 2000.)

2. Great link!
I can't believe O'Reilly is still spouting those lies about Plano, for example, even after he got a letter from the Plano school district lawyer saying it isn't true.

3. Bless you, Mr. Letterman.
"I don't watch your show, so that isn't possible."

"Send Cindy Sheehan a hat."

Dave, you're freakin' hilarious.

I don't think Billyboy will be back on Late Night anytime soon. That was the least sincere handshake in history. He got his ass handed to him.

5. Hate to say it, but Letterman is a piss poor debater. A draw at best.
No one should attempt to seriously discuss these issues with a guy like Loofah boy unless they are prepared to do so. It just encourages the O'liellly to think he's a genius. Letterman should stick to comedy. IMHO

7. I love letterman, but................
His response to the Christmas stuff was lame at best (i.e. he was uninformed on the Silent Night hoax, etc.) and his "60% is crap" comment should have been followed with examples, not just some "I've read some things".....

that's buying into their game. it's all bullshit and everyone knows it.

otherwise you just come off as a general whiner to those who aren't already entrenched on one side or the other.

23. why? O'Reilly doesn't use facts.
And most Americans don't have time to look up the truth about every silly lie he spouts. For instance that Silent Night story he spouted last night. That has been completely debunked about a thousand times. Still he repeats it again on national television. Letterman is not a pundit. He doesn't have to run to the internet and battle O'Reilly by nitpicking every lie he spouts. All he has to do is look at the guy and speak the truth. "I don't believe you." That's enough. "I don't believe you, and stop talking shit about a Gold Star Mother." That's enough. Stop playing their game. Stop letting them set the rules. Their rules are, I'll tell a lie, and you have to prove that I'm lying. Well, I'm not playing anymore. Letterman was perfect.

28. "I don't feel threatened"
LETTERMAN: I don't -- I don't think this is an actual threat. I think this is something that happened here and it happened there, and so people like you are trying to make us think that it's a threat.

O'REILLY: Wrong.

LETTERMAN: Because nobody said "Happy Holidays" to me and then said, "Oh, Merry Christmas. Oh, I can't say Merry Christmas."

Right on the money if you ask me.

15. I have to say that.
He did treat Herr Looferr as if he was a total nobody. Like I said in another post. That's what should have been done long ago. Maybe he would have retired by now. But you do raise a good point.

Just before O'Reilly walked out, Dave swirled his pencil (apparently, it was intentional :D) in the water O'Reilly drank later in the segment!!!!!

I was so hoping that when OLiely asked for an example that Dave would point out the Plano bullshit, the revised lyrics are part of a play.

Thanks for posting this, and the full segment is why I rec'd

19. Thank you for the link
I hate to say this but Letterman lost.

One really cannot debate anyone without knowing what this person says. Letterman should have watched a few shows of O'Reilly - could have borrowed some from Jon Stewart - and pick several points and go after him on those.

It is not only what O'Reilly says on his show - and I have never watched any - it is, as I have heard, the way he shuts guest up who are trying to disagree with him.

And, I will probably be strike by lightning right now, but I do agree with O'Reilly that the Iraqi insurgents are not freedom fighters. And if Cindy Sheehan is saying this then she is wrong. And she will lose any sympathy that many of us have felt for her.

As James Washburn, of the OC Weekly points in his excellent piece that I posted on http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x2348597

the towns we haven’t bombed into hummus yet are overrun with murderous cops, Shiite, Sunni and Kurdish death squads, terrorists, god-addled jihadists and corporate hired goons from the unfettered killing fields of South Africa and Central America

26. Ah, but they are killing their own, not the invaders
Edited on Wed Jan-04-06 07:29 PM by question everything
I am sure that there are websites that keep track on the numbers but all in all, there are a lot more Iraqis killed by these "insurgents" then foreign troops.

on edit: just watched CBS News http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/02/24/iraq/main541815.shtml

CBS/AP) A suicide bomber killed 32 mourners and wounded dozens at a funeral for the nephew of a Shiite politician, one of several attacks Wednesday across Iraq that killed a total of 53 people — making it the deadliest day since the Dec. 15 elections.

# car bomb exploded near an outdoor market in Baghdad's southern Dora district, killing seven people and wounding 15, police said. The bomb, which damaged several shops and nearby vehicles, targeted a police patrol near the market at the time, said police Capt. Firras Giti.

# Another car bomb in northern Baghdad killed three civilians and a policeman, and wounded 13, said Maj. Mosa Abdelkareem.

These acts are not aimed at any "invaders"

29. Well there are a couple of possibilities
Either they wanted to kill their own for some reason or other but didn't have the chance until we invaded, or they consider their targets to be traitors of one kind or another. Perhaps they see their targets as collaborators with an invading force.

In any case, I don't think much of this was going on before we got there.
